Do Everton need to rest the goalkeeper ?

Does our goalie really need to be rested for a big game ?

I doubt Howard sits out from here on out...Bobby must have felt he could risk it against Swansea at homr, but Robles does not inspire confidence right now.

...it will be interesting to see what he does at Arsenal. He kept faith with Robles last season and I wouldn't be surprised if he does the same this time around.

I dont see how he can against them, they will work him too much and he is far from ready for that

Barring an injury or suspension to Howard the cup is the only time he's going to get a game. He's young and needs experience. Although his kicking is awful ( is his left foot actually connected to his body ? ) he looks reasonably confident on crosses and shots so I'm just about in favour of him playing, even against Arsenal and beyond.

Bobby probably used it as a bargaining tool when signing him.. telling him he wouldn't be first choice but he'd get the cup games.

Didn't he oust Al-Habsi for the league games too at Wigan on the strength of his cup performances too? Can't say he's looked all that good for us so far.

Backup goalkeepers have to be given first team experience, otherwise they'll never grow into the role or challenge for the starting position.
This.

Joels not as bad as some of you like to paint him as, hes not helped by two centerhalves who arent the best at splitting to receive the ball and who invite the pressure by hesitating with there passing, turning back on themselves and sending the ball back with the opponents charging him down. Plus he wears boss black boots

Will be intresting to see if we get to the final whether roberto sticks with joel or brings T how in

Possibly our biggest game of the season each time we play in the FA Cup, so from now on we should be playing our strongest eleven. If Robles needs experience, play him against Fulham or Crystal Palace.

You have to give your back up a look once in a while, Gameday play is different from training time, If Howard is injured it is good to know his backup isn't going in untested.
And maybe Howard elevates his play when he has to prove he still the best option in net.

How would Robles be meant to improve without first team experience?

The only other option is to loan him out and then sign some no doubt over the hill keeper purely as back up, that would be happy to just take a wage and sit on the bench in case of emergencies.
