did city weaken or strenghten us this summer?

Cheers mate!

Hmm sounds like he has potential for a holding midfeild role? What do you think mate better full back, CB or midfeilder?

I said from the off that I wouldnt be surprised with him at defensive mid, Neville dropping to right back.

Centre half seems too full with Jags, Yobo and Distin - with Heitinga providing cover when needed.

As right back, his pace will be a problem.

He may get the DM position to add a bit of steel as well as a good passer of the ball. If that works out then what you have is a rock soild DM who is also comfy on the ball, especiall when Arteta comes back - it will give him more freedom.

Can see him myself being used as a defensive mid, with Neville dropping back to RB. Lets be fair, Moyes is not going to drop Neville from his team (rightly so, imo) and a fit Jags, is the better defender, no doubt about that.

We could be on to something here lads, if he is tried and proves a great success at DM the team and squad looks far more balanced.

Thats some amount of options and players who can come on and change a game, ill settle for the Uefa goblet and CL this season though.

Will still need a new right back in the next season or so then...

Names forward please

I'll keep this one short, as most all sides of the debate have been covered. Just throwing in my two cents ... the more and more I think about the Lescott saga (it always seemed like he was set to go), at least it let to some fresh blood in the side. As the whole thing sinks in, I think I'm more excited about the way it turned out than I would have been should we have held onto JL.

He was always going to leave, it seems. The only thing, then, I'd change was that I would have liked to have seen him go sooner ... give us a little more time to spend the cash.

I realize that by the deal taking longer, we likely got more cash out of citeh ... but I'm inclinded to think that if the club would have taken a hard line to the tune of "Sure, you can have him, but only a (this price)," we would have still secured the same price.

OK, that wasn't all that short ... take that as my four cents.

That's a nice looking team, although I suspect Distin will hold his place.

I certainly think we're stronger in depth.

How fast it clicks is up to Moyes but our starting 11 could be as good as any team in the league.

Time wil tell

Only time as the season plays out will tell if we benefited or lost on the sale of Lecott and all the team turmoil caused by it.

Answering the initial question, I'd say our spirit was weakened by the City saga, but it won't take Moysie long to re-instate that. So I'd say we'll be stronger than we were. Particularly if we add another quality player in January.
