did city weaken or strenghten us this summer?

In my eyes it distracted the players all this cant really think of another reason to the poor start to the season but now the dust is settled it'll die down and things should move back to where they where

I don't think we'll sign anyone in January. Players are too expensive, frequently cup-tied and clubs with something to play for won't release their best players. Maybe a loan for a player not getting much first-team action (Michael Johnson anyone?).

Wouldnt mind going after a few kids Moses and Clyne at Palace for two, we are in for a young Swindon winger to or so its rumoured.

Expect prices to be inflated in Jan and all of the above.

We still have two loans also - Banega etc!!!!!?

i think its time the lescott saga should be put to bed now in all honesty,we cant alter the past but what both clubs do in the future is more important because the longer people dwell on the fact what lescott did i think takes the focus of whats more important which is evertons new signings which ive said in another thread that distin will be a solid player for you and the other lad looks the business.

forgett lescott now its over well at least until evertopn play city this season and im sure the heat will be turned to gas mark 5 lol

Disagree mate - but i understand your sentiment its best for your club if this is all swepped under the carpet - looks like all this has effected Lescott mentally personaly i wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt hit the heights from now on that he did with us.

His and Citys behaviour in this saga is reprehensible and wont be gotten by the fans here in a hurry - and was indicated by the wider football public at Wembly on Sat.

I will be dissapointed with our club persoanlly unless they make a complaint to the FA over Citys conduct in this saga.

The fans here wont forget easily how City and Lescott both acted.

Nothing at all personal mate its just how i feel on this subject - its not good for the integrity, respect or the dignity of the game or and i wouldnt be chuffed if Everton did something similar.

With everyone fit, I'd say we could be maybe slightly stronger overall. However, we have to factor in:

- Injuries to Yak, Jags, Mikel
- Team spirit taken a big knocking
- ManC, Spurs & Villa have all strengthened more than us

and comparatively we have dropped back. Doesn't mean we can't chase for a CL place again if we get that fight and orgainisation back, but the competition will be as tough as ever.

i understand your points mate and as everyone on here will see that ive not beena fan of the way things have been done between city and lescott.

for city's sake i hope they aint done things badly because its the last thing we need at the moment when we are looking to progress but from this side of manchester tonight city are furious and are going to fight rennes because city have proof they acted correctly and i dont think a club would come out so quick with a statement unless they have proof they acted in the right manor so my mind is a bit more settled that city conducted themselves in the right way.

back to the topic though....i think getting that much money for lescott was indeed a masterstroke and you might not have strengthened properly this transfer window but you have jags and arteta to come back add add the 2 you have brought in i would say you are stronger than last season because moyes knows how to get players go for sure so when your a t full strength i think this will turn out to be a blessing and in january you lads will get much needed boost of players that will add to the quality you already have.

Maybe mate we will see what happens, we will have to wait and see on the Lescott score too i rate him highly, he wasnt always at his best last season for me but the season before that he was easily our best player. In many ways hes very much a confidence player. I have concerns over our defence in our games so far the teams that have played against us have created to many avoidable chances for me from our point of view. Thats said one of Moyesys biggest strengths is pulling gems out of the transfer market - lets see how they do!

So how about yourselves, ive been thinking City usually make a strong start to the season but then struggle when the weather changes - do you think you will continue your strong start?

i think our next 2 games against arsenal and then united will make or break our chances really mate.

i know its only 2 games but we will be able to see how far we have come or not against them and it looks like robinho and tevez will be missing for at least the arsenal game so we will see what strength in depth we have to see us through.

we dont normally travel well over the years but we have won 2 on the road so far so have we turned that corner weve been trying to turn for 30 odd years ? time will tell LOL

how do you think we will work out taking away the whole lescott saga and seeing it from just a football view mate ?

With respect, you haven't played a decent team yet, so the next few matches will be interesting.
I don't think Hughes will know what his A team is just yet, but it's not a bad time to play both of those sides.

Spurs have started like a house on fire, but I don't think it will last. City have started ok, with clean sheets but not many goals, so they can certainly be happy so far, and aren't in top gear yet.

You will have a bad patch like everyone else. If you want success, you need to deal with that patch and come out the other side quickly.
I don't see a top 4 side yet though.

To be honest mate i always had a soft spot for City untill recently, regardless of Lescott i really dont like Hughes and how he has gone about his buisness and the lack of dignity and respect he has conveyed - smacks of new money, and small time attitude. Its a pity because City really dont need it they are a terrific club, with a really loyal fanbase that persoanly have given me pleasure throughout the years, Bell, Harford, Kinkladze, Rosler, Goaeter etc. The clubs have shared so many names down through the years in Ball, Royal and Reid and ive always willed City on with those Everton legends at your club. That its sad how things have festered - maybe its jeolousy on our part, but then coming up against money is nothing new for us!

The next two games will be intresting mate - the defence hasnt really been tested yet although in the games i have seen Toure so far has been immense and we will see how they play together as a unit, i beleive these games will test Hughes as well we will see how his system using the overlapping fullbacks will hold up againt quality opposition.

Overall i think the squad lacks a bit of leadership and charicter if im honest City seem to always make a blistering start to the season display a lot of quality - be tipped for higher end honers and then fade going into the winter months and return in Mrach to make a push. The squad has undoubted quality - it had under Sven to. To be honest although players were signed with quality many had poor charicteristics or if you look at caused unrest and showed unloyalty at former clubs:

Bellemy
Santa Cruz
Adebeyor
Robhino
Lescott
Tevez
Barry

These are the type of players i can see holding their hands on their hips on a cold away night at Wigan/Fulham etc when things arent going their way, like i say i beleive alot will come down to charicter rather then quality.

For the life of me i dont know why Hughes went after these players compared to the like of Ashley Young, Lennon, Mouthino, Defour - players hungry with something to prove in world football - whom you could build a club around for years. Seems his signings are a little Fantesy footballesq - hasnt really shown his knowess of the world game or his ability to pick up a gem.

That said some clever signings were made- Given is absolutley top class, while Toure will be immense for the next season to, these will be good charicters to have around, if City are doing well Lescott will be top class to - like i said hes the type of player who needs an arm around him, maybe even Barry - but im not sure he has the overall game to push his team on when things are going against them in the way a Gerard is, Ireland isnt of that higher end quality either though a good player when the sun is shining. I beleive some of the signings were made as impact signings for now like Barry and Toure - there on big fat contracts though and not getting any younger. I cant see the players behind the undoubhted quality you have up front are going to influence a game and battle through the tough times - i dont think you have enough in midfeild (top quality that is) to stop teams cutting of your supply line.

I personaly can see the traditional top four looseing a lot of points this season games between City, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd and Everton are vital - who can get the best results in these games (even draws) and who can pick up 6-4 points every fortnight will claim the top four. Like i say i think City will struggle with consistencey in the winter due to charicter - but defoinitley have the depth and quality not to. If fans are reasonable they will allow for the team to adjust, learn how to play with each other and grow to become familiar and consistent.

However i think Hughes has created a rod for his own back on this one he has become extreamly media friendly adding to the hype, he doesnt seem to realise that when they hit a bump in the road that the media will love nothing better to knock him of his pedestal and knife him on the way down. I think the pressure he may come under may undermine the confidence of the team and some of the less tenacious players may go missing. A reasonable fan IMO would be happy with a Europa Cup place but you get the sense that would be a failure certainly - the manager and players have done little to dispell this recently, i read an article about Robhino saying you could win the league - madness. I think City have created a sense of expectation that will be impossible to live up to which may be their undoing.

If you can hold your own against Villa, Spurs and Everton you have the platform for the CL IMO - though i would be surprised. I can see it being the most competitive it has been in years for the top four with the afore mentioned clubs all in with a shout. A reasonable fan would be happy with a Europa Cup place this season and good cup runs - however the way Hughes has used the media the first sign of a chink in the armour and the club are going to get pounded.

I beleive you will do well to finish ahead of Everton, Spurs and Villa. Honest opinion mate - could be wrong though.
