I think Klassen's success depends on other players. He is a glue player in the sense that he can switch play quickly and get the ball moving. If we are struggling as a team, I think he will struggle as well. If our movement is good and he gets some space, I could see him getting a good goal return and plenty of assists. He is a team player rather than an individual one.

Well if this is your definition of pace in a team, then I would say Klassen has plenty. For me he was extremely quick in thought and execution, didn't dwell on the ball once and kept everything ticking over, lots of lovely 1 touch football.

So while he might not have pace in the traditional sense, Ie, "sprinting speed" , he has plenty of pace in your sense, Ie, "something speed" .

So he'll be fine.
i was going to make that point but you beat me to it. Does that mean you have greater speed or pace than me?

I just get the feeling we have players bumping into each other in the same area of the park and we lack variation. The addition of Sigurdsson will add to that congestion and not help Klaassen.

His debut at Goodison so early in the season, I thought he looked impressive. Deft subtle touches with an overall decent work rate. Augurs well for this season. Welcome Davy.

I'll just leave this here so others might be guided:

"Speed" = how fast something moves

"Pace" = speed at which something happens or changes

I think the above might clarify the point I've been trying to make.
So Bolasie, Walcott, Vardy are not pacey players, but Barkley is?

Convenient use of English to debunk the use of sports terminology in referencing a sport.

There's no convenience for me in all this.

Players who are top class cant be sloths and they dont pass the ball moment they get it. All the examples of great but "slow" players are bogus. They all have some short distance acceleration (and balance and screening techniques) to go by opposition players and threaten defences.

I don't know who others were watching last night but to me he had great vision and speed of passing.

I'd guess he'll be one of the few to be on Rooney's wavelength. Wayne's body might be slowing but his brain isn't. I'd expect those two to be our PlanB when firing the ball into a big physical striker (who we haven't bought yet) doesn't work.

He's the Unlocker we've been missing for years (and thought Ross was going to be)

I think Koeman wants the middle to be congested so that we can win the ball back quickly. I'm not disagreeing with you as we look a little stale and congested at times, but what is killing us are our wingbacks.

For instance- Baines was fantastic passing the ball last night. His strike was fantastic and he deserved a bit of luck with the deflection. He killed us by repeatedly stopping in his tracks every time he had the defender beat. Their players would cheat in towards the box because Baines refused to jet forward and play a ball behind the back-line even when he was allotted plenty of space. He not only slowed down the tempo tremendously when he did that, but he wasted several great opportunities to test the back-line with a cross. It doesn't matter if our height isn't all that; defenders make mistakes and players like Klassen and DCL are more than capable of getting on the end of them. Oddly enough, Baines movement was great until he received the ball. Martina is also a great crosser... but again he was too hesitant to get forward. Improvement in that area would create so much more space in he middle.

I thought he was the next Naismith, but I was actually impressed. Very intelligent one-twos and one-touch passing (though he does need to know it's OK to take a touch once in a while)
