David Unsworth appreciation thread

Koeman isn't under pressure because he's lost 3 games. He's under pressure because he's blown £220 million, has no discernible pattern of play, his signings make no sense as does his team selection and tactics. His football is dire and the players don't seem to want to play for him. Add to that the fact that he doesn't seem to get Everton and goes off on a jolly at the drop of a hat! Those are the reasons why he's under pressure. If you can deal with pressure as an individual then you can deal with it as a manager.

Whilst that may all be true if you took away all those variables, and we still lost 3 on the bounce, he’d come under pressure from us and things would get ugly.

Would we do the same with Unsworth? Because we must be consistent - ex-Blue or not.

Alright mate, maybe I did simplify things a bit there but ask yourself this... would any of the 6 teams above us last season go with an internal appointment?

United - Tried Moyes on Fergie's recommendation, after which started going for established winners

City - established winners

Chelsea - established winners

Arsenal - Wenger will live forever

Spurs - Couldn't quite get the big names in so went for young up and coming managers in AVB and Potch

Liverpool - Tried young and promising in Brenda, failed, went for Klopp who has won titles before
I'm talking about a temporary situation but to be honest I'm not bothered what the teams above us have done. For a start none of them have got Unsworth! Secondly promoting managers from within does sometimes work but it depends on the situation and the person concerned. Right now we've got the best U23 manager in the country and the best group of youngsters for 30 years. Might be worth a go to see what he can do ;)

Well I'm sure if Unsworth had been given £220 and blown it by turning us into a worse team playing turgid football and lost 3 on the bounce we would do. But whoever comes in after we kicked Koeman into touch is going to have our full backing and support in the short term as they sort it out. Once the situation stabilises then any manager is going to be feeling a bit of pressure after 3 losses. So the context is important.

The point in bold is why I think people need to take a step back and analyse the performance of an academy manager vs the world of actual football management.

This 'best youngsters since' claim does my head in to be honest. I've seen and read it so many times in the past and only seen one player live up to the hyperbole since 1970. From Murray through the Branch's , Ebbrell's, MacMahons, et al . Overwhelmingly the evidence proves most will fail, a few will become nondescript Pl players, and the odd one who is decent will clear off after a season or two to a top club 'to win stuff' which is apparently 'understandable ' nowadays. It's a dead end, a hopeless dream.

Is perhaps the evidence of his skills being displayed on the U23 pitch? Plus did he take over for a couple of games last season and did he fail.

A manager has to start off some where. RK started in Spain I believe, did he set the football world alight?

This entire post is completely inaccurate...

- No, skills on display in youth football isn't evidence he can translate it to men's PL football. It's worlds apart and I can't see why people don't understand that.

- He took over for the last game of the season at home to an already relegated Norwich.

- RK started off at Vitesse in the Dutch (read: wank) league - not the Premier League.

Hope you're not having a bad day, lighten up a bit :coffee: The only time England have won a world football competition outside U.K. is this year and we've got 5 of the team/squad. The most successful Man United team had 4/5 homegrown players. It happens, but not very often, that you get a very good group of youngsters. I think we've got one now. Either way we've got to find a way of outperforming teams above us with less money. I think that involves young players.

Of course you are entitled to your view.

However how does one find out if he has got what it takes if not given a chance? But you admit that here are skills in the U23 players so that is not inaccurate is it? As with Unsworth the same applies when do they get a chance with RK as manger to show if they can display?

Glad to see you know more of the RK history than I but really who cares. It is the now that is important, just hope we pull it off today regardless whether it saves RK or not.

No probs though, we all want our team to be up there just have a few different inclinations how it is to be done, that is the bottom line for all of us.

Unsworth, like 99% of managers, should earn their feathers in pro management at a lesser club before we can say he’s a PL manager.

Everton need to get back to basics and start from scratch as soon as possible and as much as I think Unsworth is mega, is he really at the level to manage a premier league club...
I think he would adapt. If we lose today I’d like to see him given a shot.

I'm going to over hype this and get over excited, but isn't David Unsworth + our group of player = the most exciting thing to happen since the Man U Class of 90whatever?

on potential
Kenny, Davies, DCL, Dowell, Lookman plus throw in Barkley, Keane, Vlasic, Pickford in their early 20s, this is hugely exciting!
vs Neville, Neville, Butt, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs.

I don't know if I want Unsy in the first team or continuing to coach the U23s Back to back PL2 champions?

We have won nothing for over two decades and survived in the league.

It,s absolutely garbage for people to say we should,nt give him the job when we achieved the square root of zero as a club under experienced managers.

I hope he gets it so we can hear less from the football superfans.
