2025/26 David Moyes

I definitely agree but sadly I can't see it happening. I keep saying that I'm giving my ST up (and I mean it whenever I say it) but come crunch time, I always cave. I don't buy anything from the club these days outside of match tickets and even with small gesture I'm likely very much in the minority. Again this goes back to what I said in the TFG thread. We need collective action but half our fanbase are quite happy with the position we're in and will attack anyone who thinks differently. These idiots think any form of protest is "kopite behaviour" and would probably spend double what they normally do just to make up for those of us not spending, all so they can play at being the super fan.
At this point a protest would be pretty daft and futile in my opinion. It was a disappointing season but it wasn't disgraceful, it hardly requires us to mobilise the troops and go to the ground with pitchforks demanding change. I would imagine the board are aware of fan opinion because like pretty much all businesses now they'll be monitoring things online and seeing what people think, so it's not like they're blissfully unaware of the rumblings of discontent, but it all comes down to whether they think things are going OK in terms of their own aims or not. There's no point in us all kicking off and demanding the manager be sacked if their solution is going to be to replace him with someone just like him is there? What we're hoping for is that they have bigger ambitions, but if they don't what good is a protest going to do?

Then when is the right time mate? When the crap hits the fan and we're in another relegation battle again? Because we'll just get told that its not the right time then either and that we need to "focus and get behind the lads!" Or are we supposed to just sit through another two or three seasons of 13th before this is deemed unacceptable? We're always kicking the can down the road. Its never going to be the right time to do this. All I want is for the powers that be at the club to acknowledge that what we're getting on the pitch is unacceptable for what I'm expected to pay. If they acknowledge that and legitimately go about fixing things then I'll be quite happy, otherwise, protest are absolutely justified immediately.

It's personal preference of course, but to me protesting every time you don't get exactly what you want is a bit much and you lose all the weight that a protest actually brings. What would the protest be against? What would the aims be? I don't really understand the thought process. I'm disappointed with this season and I was saying it a lot earlier than most, but ultimately I just don't really see finishing probably 4 or 5 points off what we were realistically aiming for as being worthy of a protest. I'm not saying the owners are incredible and have done an amazing job but I think they gave the manager sufficient backing to achieve a top half finish and maybe make Europe, which for this season was fine. He didn't achieve it and in my opinion there is justification for sacking him for that alone (ignoring the fact that I would like him replacing anyway) but I really just don't see how it's at the protest stage at this point. I think you probably just get laughed at in the media and the owners roll their eyes and have an easy get out of jail card every time something goes wrong because they can just say we're clearly unreasonable.

"Every single time you don't get exactly what you want" we haven't achieved anything that I wanted in close to forty years now. We're failure of a club that charges its fans obscene money for the privilege of watching muck 99% of the time. As far as the owners laughing at us goes, I'm sure they already do that anyway. How could they not with a fanbase like our who will eat plates of crap and thank the club for giving it to them. Say we leave the protest this season and we're in the exact same situation next season? Is it time then? Or will that also be the wrong time. Its about time we demanded more from the club because its very clear that we'll get nowhere by waiting patiently.

Well as I said, what is the aim of the protest? Are you suggesting that by sticking a few bedsheets up by the ground we're going to make the Friedkins completely reassess their financial commitments and aims for the club? I just don't believe that's going to happen. I think realistically finishing top half would have been an acceptable return this season and we were a couple of points away from it, we were maybe 5 points away from Europe which I think would have represented a genuinely good season in real terms. I would like the club to move on from Moyes and become a more forward thinking club (in more ways than one) but that's not something that I think needs a protest. With everything going on in the world at the moment, if the one thing that got me out on the streets protesting was that the billionaire owner of the football team I support wasn't spending enough of his fortune to make me happy then I'd hope someone would take me to one side and tell me to reassess my life choices, but like I said, it's personal preference and I get that.

I've heard all these same arguments for years mate. Its what lead us to Moshiri and Kenwright practically destroying the club. I've no doubt that you're in the majority here and that protests will never happen anyway, those of us who did try would inevitably take dogs abuse for it if we did. I have absolutely no doubt that nothing will change at this club going forward and that a decade from now, we'll be in the exact same position (or worse) as a club and there will be two posters on GOT having an almost identical discussion to you and me. I respect your opinion mate but its probably for the best that we just agree to disagree rather then continue to go back and forth as I think it highly unlikely that either of us will change our minds.

Have a good day mate.;)

DM is on Talkshyte with Ally MaCoist in the summer world cup a great career move - Eyeing up stars we probably cannot afford - he should be concentrating on our club IMO ....
Moyes has taken any good will I had towards him and thrown it in the bin over the last 2 months but there’s no place on earth that would serve the club better than being at the World Cup watching players in the flesh

Whether we’re able to actually act on anything, that’s another story

It's not just financial commitment. It's more about appointing the right people at senior leadership positions - CEO and manager being the main two.

If the past has taught us anything it should be that getting the structure right, and getting the process right for appointing the best people is more important than financial commitment. As far as I can see we've got all of that wrong for past thirty years.
