2025/26 David Moyes

For those who believe he will do what he did last time I would ask how often does that actually happen? That a successful manager leaves, returns years later and achieves what he did the last time he was there? There will be some of course, but genuinely they are so few and far between as to be an impossible dream. Our most successful manager failed to do it, so the odds are inconceivably high that Moyes will succeed.

I accept that we are not a big name anymore and unlikely to win a trophy in the near future. So if thats the case, Inwould rather we hire a positive ‘ lets try and win’ manager than the current ‘ lets not lose’ manager.

Final paragraph like a dagger through my heart.
This club will only remain relevant due entirely to the fanbase turning up every season in the numbers that they currently do.
Ill be honest and say that if back in 1963 when I first attended Goodison I would still be waiting after 30 years for some silverware im not sure I'd still be bothering. So massive kudos to our fans of today.

What’s the plan? Why can’t he do what he did the first time here, I see no reason, why he can’t build another team here with wonderful players, get to the CL, compete for trophies - why not?

04/05 was brilliant but it was a fluke. 61 points is the 2nd lowest to ever finish 4th in the Premier League. The RS were 5th on 58. They've got more points than that this year and they've been awful.

We scored 45 goals. 1.18 a game. The same as Southampton, who finished bottom. We finished with a goal difference of -1 (although we obviously got thumped 7 in the last game at Arsenal).

We won 10 games by a single goal at home. It was pure David Moyes football. He set out to draw every game, keep it tight at the back and pinch a goal. Our average possession was also the second lowest of any team that has ever finished in the top 4 (only Leicester were lower when they won it - another fluke). Moyes is Moyes for me, always has been and will/can not change his approach I don't believe. He'll effectively aim for 10th and if a couple more games go our way we'll be 8th. If they don't we'll be 12th. And then we'll get the odd freak season where a couple more go our way and we'll be challenging for Europe or the other way and we'll be worried about the drop. 04/05 was an extreme example of enough games going our way, in a poor league.

Will or can he do it again? Yes, he can, he's done it before so why not. Would we enjoy it? Of course we would but I truly believe we'd be watching exactly the same type of football as we have this year. And we might do it once but it won't be sustainable and we'd be back to around 8th to 12th the next season.

What I don't think we'll see under Moyes is an Everton side qualifying for Europe by being on the front foot, controlling possession, taking the initiative in games that are there for the taking and changing the course of games by adjusting tactics or using the bench.

The way that other teams seem to be able to do it with arguably poorer squads and selling their best players every year.

YUMMY YUMMY I WANT GRUEL IN MY TUMMY

MMMMMMM ONE NIL VICTORIES

How many have we been in since he left mate?

Honestly, because if you meet a standard you will be given a chance, we've seen it before, Vaughan, Vic, Gosling, Rooney, Stones, Barkley - we will see it with Dibling, when he hits a standard - he will be in - if he doesn't he wont - i don't have an issue with that personally. Harrison Armstrong illustrates that point this season in my opinion.
I don’t even know where to start here. Rooney was a generational freak talent so forgive me if I don’t go overboard praising Davey’s nurturing skills here. Remind me how many times Stones and Barkley played for Moyes? Harrison Armstrong has barely been seen for weeks and was played out of position when he was picked so not sure what point you’re trying to make there.

He can't do what he did first time because that was years ago and football's moved on. Just look at the way it's played and the profile of successful managers now, it's a different game and Moyes is yesterdays man. He did a good job for us before but he plays outdated tactics, old players and isn't proactive. You can't have success in that way these days.

Yes, people are bored of him because they know his limitations and can see that we're going nowhere under him.

Just because we made some poor managerial choices before, it doesn't mean we shouldn't try again otherwise what are we trying to do and be? If we stick with Moyes, we're accepting mediocrity. I don't expect us to win the league but I do expect us to at least play some exciting football in a defined style and get a few youngsters in the team.

We've got new owners now so the previous bad managerial appointments could (hopefully) be a thing of the past. If we don't try then what are we here for?

He’s won a trophy in the last five years and solid European qualification mate - which is our best chance of a trophy imo.

I’m not going to spend the summer replying to every post, I’ll stand by my points and leave it there. This thread will just be cyclical for months now.

But collectively the general point of everyone replying for me - is success being before or with building or with young players - is despite of him self - you see that in these type of debates.

Not in my opinion.

Villa are 4th and in a European final, Palace with a small squad are 4 points behind us and in a European final.
The dugouts are the difference between us and them aren’t they mate, two have managers who try to win games, one has a manager who tries not to lose.

Good god imagine how gassed they'd be if we actually had a cup run?

Imagine how gassed they'd be next year if we had to play conference league. I wonder if that's factored into their thinking, because Moyes will never work with an expanded squad.
All the above is solely on the manager not rotating and utilising the squad and resources adequately.

Heard a few shouts that we couldn’t cope with Europe, and I hate it, it’s exactly the mentality that Moyes and the club are cultivating.

We qualify, you can attract more players to build a squad that you will actually utilise and rotate properly, which is capable of performing in all competitions you are involved in.

Moyes thinks rotation is what you do when you turn over in bed, he hasn’t got a clue and picks his knackered favourites constantly, and doesn’t even use his subs/bench properly.

His training regimes and pre-season prep are and have always been crap as well imo, as we are starting from a low base fitness wise and always look unfit compared to the teams we are facing, and always start the season under cooked and under prepared.

We normally only seem to get going post Christmas under Moyes.

We need better.

100% mate. I know the majority want him gone, but it burns my head out when you listen to the reasons of the people who want him to stay. How did we develop such a smalltime mentality from top to bottom? It's absolutely shocking.
