2025/26 David Moyes

It all so disappointing isn't it!?

After Chelsea I was getting excited about possible CL.
Couple weeks later it was Europa and still exciting
Two games ago I resigned myself to a likely Conference league spot but would love it anyway. I didnt think it possible for us to piss that up the wall.
He might have got us within sight of these but the blame has to fall in his shoulders. There are teams with busier schedules out performing us for weeks now and not all have big squads either
The really perturbing aspect is will we have the same opportunities to scale the table next season? Two sky six teams have completely imploded this season Newcastle have been mediocre in the league but still have a solid squad, so it feels like a perpetual disappointment awaits us every season

How many have we been in since he left mate?

Honestly, because if you meet a standard you will be given a chance, we've seen it before, Vaughan, Vic, Gosling, Rooney, Stones, Barkley - we will see it with Dibling, when he hits a standard he will be in if he doesn't he wont - i don't have an issue with that personally. Harrison Armstrong illustrates that point this season in my opinion.
The Mcneil standard

Then why he didn’t he sell Patterson last Summer or in January & use the proceeds to at least loan a full back. I believe it’s documented that Moyes vetoed the full backs Thelwell lined up & those recommended by the ‘committee’. It appears so incoherent bordering on incompetent.

I beleive because they couldnt get in the right full targets they wanted and he wouldnt comprimise.

I'm ok not buying players we really don't want for the sake of it, we've just had 10 years of deals had to do because we could do, not deals we actually thought would improve, i never want to go back to the recruitment parameters of the Moshiri years mate.

But the alternative is always better than the decision in hindsight mate.

I think if Patterson played the entire season even with Jake moving g across for Keane then I think we have less points over all in the season.

Patterson isn’t great mate.

Looks like Rohl could have done a job at right back allowing O’Brian to move to centre back when Branthwaite was injured. I suspect Moyes wouldn’t trust him there but we all know Tarkowski/Keane leaks goals.

I think it’s taken Rohl time to get up to speed with the PL myself mate, I think he’s began to adjust now.

Yeah maybe, but it’s just another example of the limits in the squad we’re dealing with - I wish we just go out and buy full backs if I’m honest.

So many games we can’t point to and looking at it all collectively it’s ruined our season, certainly one of the reasons.

Its going to take incremental progress, first achieving Europe to give a broad base to compete domestically.
Yeah but why is it always "next year for Europe"? Literally, every single argument for him is "he needs time to get the squad ready for Europe. THIS squad really isn't it!" when we basically had Europe in our literal hands. It was due to Moyes bottling it like he always does when expectations are placed on him. Next year it's going to be the same rallying cry of "NEXT year is going to be better because we didn't get Europe THIS year; we'll give it a good go". The league is shambolic this year. We, 100%, could have had Europe locked up in some capacity if not for Moyes tactics, in game management and woeful squad usage all year. The players are, somehow, dead on their feet after playing about 40 matches total. Maybe not having 8 players play 75% of all total minutes might NOT have been the best usage of players available to you?

Good god imagine how gassed they'd be if we actually had a cup run?

He looked like he was adapting when he had a notable game against Villa then Gana returned and he vanished. I think the only reason he was utilized by Moyes was that he started to get irked with McNeil not adhering to his defensive duties and the fact he doesn't trust anyone else to provide defensive coverage on the wings

He’s been back one full season mate - it’s hardly “always” - no one, probably accept me was talking about Europe this year at the start of the season.

I agree with you, there was an opportunity there, can he be critiqued - for sure, he isn’t perfect.

Getting Europe this season, I still think though, even though the opportunity was there Europe was beyond par for the club and probably fans in expectation at the start of the season.

If the club said Europe was the minimum requirement this season they should sack him.
