2025/26 David Moyes

Which makes him one of the highest paid managers in world football. Despite all of that money, however, there are still some who will have you believe that we couldn't attract even a semi-competent manager to replace him.
yeah, I dont buy the whole europe thing.
Some seem to think the conference league is some kind of Champions league level holy grail.
It's a league with Glentoran, and the new saints etc. I mean, fun, sure, but hardly gonna turn players heads.

If it was not for our away form we would have been in a relegation scrap or if we had got points like yesterday's defeat add a list of clubs at home we got battered like the mighty Spurs etc we may have made Europe the main worry imo is our style of play particularly at home -
DMs two banks of four - dropping back to protect a one goal lead mainly is painful to watch !
I'm struggling to pinpoint the home issue.

Maybe D-Hall sat deep protecting and forcing the use of Alcaraz or Dibling in the AM. Clearly the away set up has proven its worth, maybe Moyes is to wed to that setup and its successes that he has relied on it at home where other sides have simply waited us out.

I cant quite place it.

Some of the defeats & football have just been to painful to watch IMO -

Just do what villa did. Gerrard was crap so the went and got Emery who's about 5 levels above Moyes.
Villa landed lucky, arsenal had pulled the trigger early and so Emery had a point to prove. Villa had also had the benefit of swabbing down the decks when they were relegated and building back up on new foundations. A series of successful signings and a wily old manager with some euro tournament pedigree. No points deductions, no dyche, no new ground. Good for them. We rarely get nice things.

There's not a lot of character in this squad, some fine players, some with great dribbling skills, but there isn't an Andy Gray or a Peter Reid in there. I understand fully why Moyes wanted McGinn. A player that is a terrier, who will raise the collective effort and get stuck into the opposition.

Every successful side has at least one.

The home issue is clear to me, we (he) doesnt know how to take the game to the opposition, not even poor teams, thats why so many come to our ground and do well this season.

We allow teams to come here get hold of the ball and gain confidence, which then makes the crowd restless and nervous.
Our front foot football last about 10-15 minutes then we revert to type, the last derby a perfect example.

He is cut from the same cloth as Dyche, its protect first and see what we can grab at the other end, but he cant even do that anymore.
In the end we do neither, our press is half hearted, the whole things a mess.

Isn't that what Gana is supposed to be?

It’s quite simple really - underdog reactive mentality, all lines are out of balance, first and last attack choice are balls back to Pickford…

Bang on. Great example of a player who has ample ability but also wants to squeeze everything out of every himself every game, and I imagine every training session.

McGinn would have made a great Everton player in the past. Nowadays everyone would kick off if we were linked because he has a funny head.

We pressed and put Sunderland on the back foot and made a few half chances and worked hard to make the header for J'O'B, then it fell apart. That wasn't 'underdog reactive', it was 'we've huffed and puffed and not quite blown your house down', and then like so many other games this season... the dreaded sucker punch.

I have no idea how over an entire season being switched on to the sucker punch hasn't been learned. That's players, coaches, manager, and ball boys.

It's now so bad in the match thread that forum members are predicting it openly, and it's got to the point of it being every game. Not doom mongering, short and sweet 'we'll get picked off on the counter here in the last ten' type of stuff.
