2025/26 David Moyes

I’ve been on GOT since 2014 (gulp!)

I’m rarely on the manager thread post match venting and don’t think I’ve ever done it the day after.

However today I’m still mad as hell at his team selection and post match comments. That team selection and “no real reason” non explanation showed he didn’t, despite all the pre match build up, care one whit about winning the cup, it was a training exercise.

The players could also pick up that, not a surprise they don’t bust a gut to win, especially as they would have been still getting used to the setup and the end result is he’s probably dented a few of their confidences too.

Not only was it a dumb move to not prioritize a cup run but it was total disrespect to the loyal traveling fans to field that team.

Exactly. Too many of the fans have been conditioned by the Kenwright era and his constant belittling of the club, and accepting mediocrity and pathetic managerial decisions.

A historically huge club with a magnificent stadium that's a jewel on the famous city waterfront. Yet still with a plucky old Everton attitude, and yes the players will be picking up on that.

I bet the likes of Grealish came here to play every game possible, but find themselves on the bench replaced by some clogger used to relegation scrapping. Moyes clearly thought Wolves would just roll over, he's an idiot.

we’re did i say i didn’t?

i said it’s lunacy

for “wanting a manager sacked”

“we’re in for a long hard season”

of a cup game
If that's someone else's opinion then so be it, just bypass the post and have a laugh to yourself about it instead of stressing out about it mate. I see lots of posts on here all the time that drive me nuts but I leave most of them alone because it ain't worth the stress pal.

In a nutshell.

Some fair points here I think.

To be clear I don’t think praising him for this

And giving him pelters for last night are incompatible.

I believe he is a better manager than many and therefore I expect more of him and he especially should know how much the fan base craves silverware.

Yes, exactly. Well said.

Last night wasn't a capability failure on his part - he knows how to win at Wolves, and could've if he'd prioritised it.

It was a misjudgment. Not a misjudgment of his squad and its ability, but what this tournament means to fans.

He just needlessly flushed a metric tonne of fan goodwill down the drain. That'll only make his life harder.

I'm not sure if he knows that even now - or if he ever will.

That's a good point and could point to why some of the players may not have recovered enough from Saturday. 3 day turnaround isn't much.
I'd say the older players like Gana and Grealish may have been affected. Could be wrong but 100% fitness is crucial in football nowadays.
We will have to agree to differ.

I accept that there is a case for resting Gana and probably Mykolenko as he's recovering from injury but that's about it for me.

At a push I could have accepted 3 changes to the team but 7 was ludicrous.

Mind you by your own admission the league cup is irrelevant and I suspect that view alone puts you out of step with the majority on here.

Anyway it is what it is.

I also genuinely worry about what it has done to some of the squad players’ mentality.

Imagine being Adam Aznou - Moyes makes 7 changes and you aren’t one of them and to rub it in he played a 36 year old right back in your position ?

So I think the squad selection even fails on the “seeing if squad players are up for it and sod the cup” - he’s made it much harder for them to shine than just 2-3 changes would have.

That has always been as much a Moyes attitude as Kenwright one

If he’s that dumb than his days are numbered…
