2025/26 David Moyes

The fact that we’re even thinking about Europe when we have mostly the same squad that has been fighting relegation for years (and with long term injuries to key players) shows what a good job Moyes has done. I expect him to sign a new contract soon and it will be deserved. The improvement needs to continue though over the next couple of seasons.
He has a ceiling though. Unfortunately he basically reached it right away. If we'd bought well I'd probably be a bit more positive, but Dibling is blocked, Rohl is Anderton, Barry is Nyarko. With Branthwaite, one of the few genuinely world class players, now with a recurring career ender, we need about 6 players including an entire spine outside of GK, and fullbacks and wingers with pace. Rocking horse poo for Everton.

I don't trust Everton to get it right and long gone are the days of Moyes bagging an Arteta or Cahill bargain.

The most typical Moyes derby performance ever

It was blatantly obvious Gana and Garner wasn't working, even more so once both of them looked completely dead on their feet from about the 70th minute, I'm convinced he has the subs he's going to make pre-determined in his head before the game. worst manager in the league when it comes to using his bench.

We've improved this season and that's down to Moyes.

But he has to take responsibility for getting rid of Thelwell who did a much better job on recruitment - Ndiaye, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Garner for £50m.

Smart move was to keep Thelwell for another year and give us some continuity.

Last summer's recruitment (KDH aside) looks really bad.

I agree we need better than Moyes and deserve better. But here’s the reality that has to be met. There are plenty of managers that are better than Moyes. But that manager has to be available, we have to meet his salary demands, and he has to want to come here. Who meets that criteria right now? Basically no one.

We were desperate to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, a club being relegated. He turned us down. Why? Perceived opportunities of success and glory at Chelsea.

Now that’s just some random player in a club. We’re looking for our singular leader. Do we put out the vibe that’s like a magnet to coaches scrambling to lead us because we’re synonymous with winning, Europe, and trophies? No. Not for some time.

So kick Moyes out and who do you put in? It’s so short-sighted. It’s completely fair to complain and debate his decisions. I think it’s a horrible idea to sack him given the managers out there, especially with our lack of depth, thinking that new man will get more juice out of the fruit.

Moyes is never the manager to try and win these games in the last 20 minutes, even with them having their third keeper on, never done it 12 years ago wont do it now.

Club needs to decide what future they want in the summer.

Our season isn't defined by one off games though. It's the year overall. If the club is in a position to get a fantastic manager in and spend £200m then I'd entertain the thought.

If it's another manager from a mid table side who's the current flavour of the month then I'd be skeptical. We've played that game with Silva and Koeman and it didn't end well.

To think we'll be going into more derbies against much better Liverpool teams with this coward in charge is utterly depressing.

He better get us one of those European places. Though even that wont be enough to wipe out the humiliation of that today and the very real probability of more hurt in future derbies.

I hope these owners are taking a good look at this and not falling for some tripe that safety is the goal.

Exactly but do think Moyes is the man to take us to the next level? No.

But he’s done a brilliant job in the short period of time here.

People forget that the squad he inherited were in relegation battles and it’s gonna take a lot longer than 16months to change that. Pickford, Patterson, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Garner, Beto, McNeil and Gana were all constantly fighting relegation battles. 8 out of the 9 players I’ve just mentioned, all started today.
