2025/26 David Moyes

I think they'd have struggled there today. Barry just let us down massively. Clear he doesn't want to be here.
To be honest, I think it was Barry’s poor technique that was his main issue today. I’d say he has a decent shout for a penalty when VVD wrestled him and grabbed his shirt to impede him from going for that loose ball during their mixup.

He's now dropped Armstrong and effectively Dibling has been mismanaged all season.

Options there for the players they could have been today.
Even with our existing options, it was very mismanaged. Gana is 35-36 and he played 90 in a high intensity match. Half time changes were becoming. He said we have a near full squad now, so this the best we can do? I don't buy it. I agree that would have been nice to give Armstrong the minutes in this derby.

The fact that we’re even thinking about Europe when we have mostly the same squad that has been fighting relegation for years (and with long term injuries to key players) shows what a good job Moyes has done. I expect him to sign a new contract soon and it will be deserved. The improvement needs to continue though over the next couple of seasons.

I’ll take today’s loss at the derby any day if getting the derby win under Dyche meant season after season of anxiety riding the relegation line. We know we’re not going down this season and have known it for some time. I never felt that way with Dyche. We certainly weren’t talking about the possibility of Europe under Dyche.

This isn’t a Dyche v Moyes thing. Moyes is a much better manager. But it just shows Moyes’s mentality problem. A poor manger in Dyche takes a poor Everton team but gave it a go against them and got the win in one opportunity.

Moyes has failed to do that in multiple multiple attempts with better players. The reason he can’t is his own mentality, he thinks Everton only deserve a draw against these teams.

I thought Iroegbunam should've been on too tbf. Still think Beto going off was what changed it. Well not so much him going off but Barry coming on.
I do agree Beto coming off changed the game, but for me Barry coming on was only that much of an issue because we weren't willing to change how we were playing and get players up around him, which is what he needs.

People may prefer Beto over Barry for a variety of reasons but they aren't the same type of player and need to be used differently.

How many times in that second half did we play a ball over the top to a player who's completely isolated because we weren't willing to commit men forward. Beto is a battering ram that might get something out of those situations by himself against the two centre backs, Barry isn't that player at all. Ask him to do that job and he's useless.

Today he had to at least try and give us an outlet though. He just didn't look interested.

If we end up finishing between 11th - 13th we should consider getting rid. We're not winning the big games, which was the same problem the first time.
Europe or bust for me. With half the teams in this league qualifying, we need to be one of them. And it’s really not asking too much.

If we fail to make it, we need to look at how he has brought on the €90m worth of young players he bought.

Oh, he hasn’t.

Would you bet on us going to their stadium and winning? I wouldn’t.
Probably depends what the situation is for them on the last day. They might be already down or they might need a win to stay up which is huge pressure for them. We went to Newcastle who needed a win to guarantee CL on the last day last season when we had nothing to play for and beat them.
