2025/26 David Moyes

He's just identifying that scoring is clearly been a weakness of ours mate, if we improve on that next season whilst keeping at least as decent defensively as we've been, then we're in very good stead.

That said, I think Pickford often makes our defensive numbers look better. But also, this defense has also been missing Branthwaite for a long time and is still missing an actual right back.

Amazing how so many highlight that. But ignore Everton have let in less than liverpool chelsea villa and man united.
first and foremost you want points on the board. Moyes played a more expansive games at west ham in 23/24. They scored 60 goals. And let in 74. West ham fans wanted his head on a platter for it.
He's doing ok. We clearly need a better centre forward over the course of a season. That probably put us on mid 40s goal tally right now. Id rather that and keep the defensive record.

If we do get 5th it'd be down to Moyes and the players, I'd say even more so on Moyes for squeezing out that bit more that was needed in some cases - I've never not credited that when it happens with him.

I'd say overall it was a positive season and a sacking is unwarranted (related to below post too just leaving it here), as it is progress overall - more wins, etc., players in the national team(s), some good moments, but it'd be a certain sacking if we hobble out again in the same way next year as improvement will be even more sought after then.

I think we can celebrate the potential/progress/whathaveyou for it, but to go "wahey but Europe lads eh????" when there's still a substantial amount of games to play will be to the detriment of both doomer and happy points and it will lead to an all out war on here  Caution should prevail (among fans), we should know better than anyone like - I'm okay for the players/manager to talk themselves up using it, it is warranted in this case, and we should celebrate the optimism, but "almost Europe" doesn't really sit super right to celebrate, if that makes sense; scent of "7th place DVD".

Remember with Carlo when we were celebrating being top 4 for half a year and how that ended? We should be looking forward to more wins obviously but we should also demand it be sustainable, not in runs of a month on/off (though for Moyes currently it's more 'streaky form at times', rather than 'prolonged month+ bad form followed by 3 good games' as it was under previous incumbents).

The doom brigade will be out anyway though, not even sure Moyes will change that - it'll always be DOOM O'CLOCK somewhere*, I guess.

That post was a hell of a lot longer than it looked..

I got caught out by the multi quote splitting it up..

Sorry you had to read words on a forum mate.

To answer your earlier post. I expected/hoped we'd finish the season on 50-55 points. Last season we finished on 48 points. We're currently on 47 points. I suspect we'll finish with 50+ points so will be happy with that. If that means 13th then so be it.

It's a different season also. People say the league is weaker this season, but I'm not sure it is. Spurs current points total, for example, would have kept them up last season, by 5 points.

Fair mate. Don't think it's weaker, it's more even outside the top 2 if anything, and 50+ would be a huge improvement over last year imo. Would be good to max it out as much as we can obviously.

I was just asking re: the "we've almost got Europe lads!!" as it seems to be quite a big point to beat the doomers with, which could easily fall flat.

I don't think anybody is really 'celebrating' almost getting Europe. That's just a myth built by some who have a narrative to push. I'm speaking for myself here, but I'm just happy to be post-Easter with Europe being a possibility. We haven't had that since Carlo, and the bit in between wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs, was it? So I'm just enjoying it mate, and looking forward to the games. People should enjoy it more.

Yeah but those that stuck their necks out at the start in the anti-Moyes and “no one could possibly do any better than Dyche” camps aren’t going to be enjoying it are they?

We've got a better goalie than all of those teams except Liverpool, and even then Allison tends to be injured a lot. It makes a difference. But I agree, we should be building on the defensively solidity we have, a right back would go a long way.

Nobody is celebrating almost getting into Europe we are just pointing out that it's perfectly normal and acceptable to be happy with the club's performance at this point in time.

Anything can happen next week or next month but that doesn't change that right now it's a fairly good job that Moyes has done at this moment.

If people would rather picture grey skies and losing every match so they can enjoy the headlines of Moyes being sacked in their head then let them, I'll continue to live in the present where he's doing a fine job.

Who is disputing we’ve not spend much over the last 5 years?

Maybe let’s make it 10 or 12 so we can add Moshiri’s wastefulness.

We can all manipulate figures to suit an agenda, but lets not pretend our owners didn’t put the 7th most money into any EPL team last summer, just so Glorious Leader’s case can be made to look better.

Maybe we should just ignore the tens of millions of ‘talent’ he signed off on but leaves on the bench if the sole purpose is further his pauper narrative, after all he’s only really using £45m of what he spent.

It’s like that other sham ‘fact’ a few pages back about squad value that conveniently ignored Grealish because he was on loan and listed Branthwaite at £1m 🙄 just so we could be shown to have the 15th most valuable squad or whatever.

It’s desperate stuff.
So tied 7th after spending 7th most. Fair play Moyes. Good job.

You do exactly the same though? You want to list Grealish as a £100m player but also have Branthwaite as a £70m player, pick one because you can’t have both.

What’s our squad value compared to Newcastle or Spurs?

They didn't improve in the league, their form was terrible, there were genuinely worse teams around them that helped.

All of the things you say as facts are very easy to check if you really want to by the way.
They improved in the second half of the season and got safe (finished 14th) and then their end of season form was worse as their focus was pretty much all on Europe. They still get some decent results, though. The key game was actually the Forest game at the end of February as Moyes was under massive pressure and on the verge of the sack. But they were never under any serious danger after that.

Finishing 14th and winning a trophy is a good season by most standards, especially for West Ham. They are typically a midtable to lower end of the league side.

They improved from 18th to 14-16th, because there were some actual atrocious teams.

Stop deifying a very mid manager.
