2025/26 David Moyes

I think 8th after only scoring 39 goals more reflects the way we are set up with a focus on defence v chance creation. Gets the points but not as entertaining as it could be but you know what you sign up to with Moyes.

I think so mate. But to be fair you manage what you have available and i still think our defence is our strongest line.

I actually think we will do well this season - beyond expectations. Then i think we will fall below expectations next season.

I think he will try and change if from being a more solid team to one more balanced - but think there will be growing pains around that.

Go back to what i was originally responding to - i was adding context 🤣

‘the narrative’ i was responding to was we’d had the 14th lowest transfer budget this season
It was the 14th lowest transfer budget in terms of total expenses.

You were changing the context to net spend to suit the argument you were framing that Moyes is crap.

If you're going to argue that we should only consider net spend then looking just at a single year we had a positive net spend when the previous four were all negative isn't a very fair analysis.

But of course you know that.

It's so incredibly tiresome.

Do we finish higher up the table for entertaining footy?

Oh, we don't? Then points on the board seems like the right thing to prioritize doesn't it?

So again I ask, yeah we are somewhat close to Europe, but what exactly happens if we end up at 13-14th and we have a dreadful finishing run? "It was expected"? "Best we can do with these players"?
Tread carefully now - that could be perceived as negative towards Lisan Ai-Gaib and you know his warriors have a habit of popping up to attack when that happens…..

Let us be pragmatic, Moyes has done a good job. But that is conditional on a us having a small squad and him not being a "Europe" kind of manager. Will need to see if we finish in the European spots, if he can learn squad rotation necessary for Europe, if he can spend money on the right transfers, and so on. That is a lot of ifs right now. I think he will stay in until end of season and become a club ambassador or some advisor or something. Best for everybody really.
Erm, he had the record for longest unbeaten streak in Europe among English clubs for a while.

"Oct 6 (Reuters) - West Ham United manager David Moyes said he was proud of his side after their 2-1 Europa League win over Freiburg extended their unbeaten run in Europe to an English record 17 games.

"West Ham, last season's Europa Conference League winners, had been tied with Don Revie's 1960s Leeds United team and Bill Nicholson's Tottenham Hotspur side from the 1970s, but edged ahead thanks to their win in Germany on Thursday."

He probably gets thanked for the job he's done and gets let go.
Doubt he gets let go this year, just asking for people's opinion in general - I've told you several times I'm not anti-Moyes or anything - just seeing several people make the "but we're in the contention for Europe" point, which is valid right now, but can go backwards in the span of 2 or 3 games where we potentially get left behind and out of it and back to 12-14th, which is the same as last year.

I don't want it to be the case and would like Europe obviously as I'm not an insane Moyes hater like davek, but there has to be more to it for going forward. Similarly, if we do get Europe, the aim for next year should be to get Europe again while playing in Europe (and hopefully shithousing a title, like WHam), so that we don't do a WHam ourselves and be near the bottom with 5 to go as they were - we didn't win a game for months and they were right next to us for most of that run.

What will be, will be.

I ask, yeah we are close to Europe (one point is it, maybe even in a European place now, so a bit more than somewhat). but what exactly happens if we finish 5th and we have a great finishing run? It was all down to the players, Moyes is still crap?

At the end of the day, bottom half would be correctly seen as a failure. I think if that scenario plays out, I would personally still stay positive. But that is because I hold the cliched view of emotion in football. Never too high, never too low. I believe there have been enough positives so far to still have a positive outlook, regardless of what happens in these last 6 games.

I just think it is important we maintain our league form during the season we are Europe, that is how we become mainstays there. I actually understand some of the shouts for conference league, but I think champions league is a better destination for Moyes. He can play the same team Wednesday and Sunday. But not so much on a Thursday and Sunday. Being "Half Full" of it...

If he finishes 12th or 14th I wouldn't be upset or surprised were they to sack him.

Agree with you that if we make Europe the bar gets raised to that level.

This new concept that we can't celebrate a league position until the season is over is frankly ridiculous and they won't apply it to themselves if we hit poor form and the opportunity presents itself for the Anti Moyes doomers to tell us how the sky is falling.
