2025/26 David Moyes

Because as far as I can recall, it rarely works out when a managers contract is running down.
He has to be professional, many people in all walks of life work to a contract.
Irola at Bournemouth is in his last year of his contract but you don't see him moaning.
We can't just give him another contract because we are scared he will walk away, in my opinion he has not earned a new contract yet .
He has done a good job but £80 million quids worth of players sitting on the bench never getting a sniff is not a good look and is hardly going to entice new young players to come to the club.

Let us be pragmatic, Moyes has done a good job. But that is conditional on a us having a small squad and him not being a "Europe" kind of manager. Will need to see if we finish in the European spots, if he can learn squad rotation necessary for Europe, if he can spend money on the right transfers, and so on. That is a lot of ifs right now. I think he will stay in until end of season and become a club ambassador or some advisor or something. Best for everybody really.

We are moving forward.

Glass half full

Ll

Not necessarily, we could still finish 14th it's that tight, we didn't win a cup game this season, and I'd hardly say we're playing scintillating football.

Glass half empty.

This is what this discussion boils down to, at this very moment in time. Our position in the league, the way the league has panned out is dividing the fan base into two distinct categories. We have had a very negative past 5 seasons, where the whole fan base was glass half empty. Us glass half full fans are now having reason to be ourselves again.

I have said before though, even if we drop down (generally 13th has been mentioned as the downbeat scenario, but as you are being even more negative, I will say) to 14th, then I think there have been enough positives to not feel all doom and gloom. We are not far off having a very good, all round, 1st 11.

You can cut the gross/net spend figures which ever way you want to support your narrative.

Bottom line is we spent a lot of money & have loans for players who are only getting a few minutes, if any, and there is little evidence these players have progressed in any way over the season.

Something has therefore gone wrong & it needs sorting before we spend the next £100m +.

I’m fully in the Moyes has done well overall and any talk of replacing him is unwarranted. However completely agree about last summer. It was a mess and can’t be repeated.

It’s not really about him walking away or about him moaning. It’s about the impact it has on the players and the club. Also about signing new players who may be unsure because there isn’t much certainty around the future of who will be their manager etc.

Who is disputing we’ve not spend much over the last 5 years?

Maybe let’s make it 10 or 12 so we can add Moshiri’s wastefulness.

We can all manipulate figures to suit an agenda, but lets not pretend our owners didn’t put the 7th most money into any EPL team last summer, just so Glorious Leader’s case can be made to look better.

Maybe we should just ignore the tens of millions of ‘talent’ he signed off on but leaves on the bench if the sole purpose is further his pauper narrative, after all he’s only really using £45m of what he spent.

It’s like that other sham ‘fact’ a few pages back about squad value that conveniently ignored Grealish because he was on loan and listed Branthwaite at £1m 🙄 just so we could be shown to have the 15th most valuable squad or whatever.

It’s desperate stuff.
Nobody is disputing it but when you leave the context out of the conversation entirely just to focus on the single year we spent money it shows just how pointless a conversation with the anti Moyes brigade actually is.

He won a European trophy two years ago.

Go back to what i was originally responding to - i was adding context 🤣

‘the narrative’ i was responding to was we’d had the 14th lowest transfer budget this season

Dear Davy,
The business end of the season
6 games

Just think of it like having a good cup run to Wembley

3rd Rd*
4th Rd
5th Rd
6th Rd
Semi
Final

*Oh, just a point, your first game is Vs the rs - but it is at home

We're 8th after scoring, 39 goals, that's mental and actually evidence of incredible efficiency and ability to manage a limited attacking team to get results.

It actually reminds me of the year he got us into CL were we scored very few but actually just kept getting efficient results.

I think 8th after only scoring 39 goals more reflects the way we are set up with a focus on defence v chance creation. Gets the points but not as entertaining as it could be but you know what you sign up to with Moyes.
