2025/26 David Moyes

You have to balance with the fact that he turned players down in January 2025 like Truffert for slightly less than we paid for Aznou.

Moyes has said that he has final say on signings so he authorised the signing. Truffert was of the age that Moyes likes. Instead we are still playing Mykolenko and have a kid doing nothing. Makes no sense

Similarly he stopped the Fellows signing for £8m and authorised Dibling for 5 times as much. He doesn’t play Dibling. He has to have responsibility for the team getting one starter despite spending over £100m
Well, it’s very hard to speak with such confidence on transfer decisions, given the opacity of the process.

I’ll judge Moyes on the pitch, ultimately, and so far I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t over-performing my initial expectations of him.

There is massive divide between the pro Moyes and anti Moyes on here .

No there isn't. This is nothing compared to the days of Benitez, Dyche & Martinez.

There's a vocal minority. Most of whom are nowhere to be seen after a win. So desperate is their cause that getting a point away to a team above us in the table is some sort of trigger to them these days.

For me it is question for the end of the season. I certainly wouldn't be rushing through a contract extension.
I don’t think anyone is rushing through an extension to be honest. There’s only 6 games left.

But he does either need a new deal or need moved on in the summer. And that decision needs made early doors so it doesn’t get entangled with the transfer window and players not knowing who will be the manager.

We can’t go into next season with him in his final year. And for me, he deserves time as he has us challenging for European spots in the final weeks of the season.

He’s massively over performing since he’s come in. It can’t be denied. Only people with an agenda do. Is he frustrating at times absolutely. Was he part of a process that fluffed the summer transfer window then yes (the idea that he is solely responsible for transfers, like some say, is for the birds)

But this is still a shakey club where it can swing back to the dog days quite quickly. A couple of stable seasons shoring things up are just what the doctor ordered. If we get Europe this season or even next then he will have done a great job.

Absolutely. There's absolutely no guarantees we would be better placed had the likes of Aznou and Dibling been given more time. In fact, given it's the managers job on the line (as ever thus) if results aren't forthcoming, you'd suspect he's picking the team he thinks gives us the best chance of results.

It makes me laugh. There's always something that should be being done that would supposedly defo lead to better results. No evidence to support it like, but he's defo not getting the best out of this squad, because, y'know, the haters have seen us in that alternative universe league table and we are flying, with an a lower average age too. Sort it out Moyes. :hayee:

I for one didn't say we'd have better results, just that we'd play 10 yards further up the pitch with a manager like Iraola. This would lead to more exciting football but not necessarily a better league position in the short term although I'd be confident that he'd have us in the top 8 consistently given some money and the backing of the transfer committee.

Iraola will just waltz in and take this rag tag bunch of players and have us champs league no bother. Easy isn’t it

If you gave Iraola Aznou, George and Armstrong they'd all be in the first team every week, O'Brien and Branthwaite would be our centre backs and we'd play 10 yards further up the pitch. Not sure we've currently got the rest of the squad to do that yet though.

I wish some of them would get more game time surely.

We are far from a possession team, but I wouldn't say we are as negative as lots say. Negative football for me is what Dyche did in his 2nd year here.

Our pressing is kind of strange, it's more of mid-block pressing, but on the other hand we are 5th for balls won in the opposing final third. We mostly lack then in the decision making, as we are 19th from chances created from pressing and 18th from goals on the break.

Fair enough. Iraola is a good manager. However, he's yet to prove he's anything above the likes of Thomas Frank, De Zerbi,Allardyce, Nuno ,or dare I say it, Moyes etc, in terms of the bigger picture and what he's actually achieved to date.

FWIW, I'd not be opposed to him becoming our manager at some point, provided he's still doing the business. However, what people tend to forget is that Moyes has as good as already been payed to manage us next season. Should we really be contemplating paying two managers for next season, just because the football might be a bit better (it's not better if you're losing regularly but playing pretty stuff)?

I also don't like the idea of a manager going in to his final year. It's an unneccesary distraction.

So just to clarify, according to GOTs resident arse clown, if you have a balanced view and appreciate the improvement in league places this season and the fact that we are pushing for Europe and not battling relegation, this makes you a “Moyes sycophant”.

Is it just me that finds this kind of behaviour odd?

It’s exactly the kind of behaviour on display from the borderline insane, or narcissistic ramblings from the POTUS.

He seems a decent enough manager at this point in his career,

But yeah, there's glaring weaknesses in this squad. Most people who know football will tell you for definite that if you just put one good attacking full back in to the team (either side), who can also defend a bit, then this team will instantly improve.

This squad was never gonna be sorted out with one summer and one January window. Not on the back of loads of players walking out the door for free and years of negative or really low net spend. £110 million is a lot of money... if you're spending it on one or two players. We were never fixing everything in one go.

It's bang out of order from @davek , tbh.

Recall him distinctly defending his right to back Benitez by stating that backing an Everton manager is the correct thing to do, and that doing so is beyond criticism.
