2025/26 David Moyes

….i think it’s much more simple than that, some transfers don’t work out, players will disappoint.

We know Moyes rightly sets standards and if players fail to do what the team needs he won’t select them, even if he’s signed them. Moyes should be held accountable for signings.
It's all conjecture but I don't think many people believe they're Moyes' signings, and if they are, he's had a nightmare considering how he's used them. A disconnect between him and the club's transfer strategy seems more likely to me.

….look at KDH and Grealish.

Doucoure was a key player for Moyes last season but he said he needed better quality in possession, he lets Doucoure go and replaces him with KDH. I’d never have thought KDH would offer the same industry as Doucoure but he has and is a huge improvement in terms of quality in possession. I’d say our signing of the season, certainly a Moyes acquisition given what he said he needed.

Moyes wanted better quality in the top third and we got Grealish. Grealish said it was the discussions with Moyes that convinced him to join. A Moyes signing.

I don’t think we can separate those from the less successful. Moyes might not have identified Barry but I’d be sure he endorsed the signing after the player was recommended. Good and bad transfers, Moyes is accountable. Ultimately, though, he’s judged on how the team perform and given the significant improvement I doubt he’ll be under too much pressure.

Saying that, one or two significant improvements this summer could truly move us up a level.

And I am honest enough to say he absolutely wasnt my first choice to come back. But the job he has done is remarkable. He has given us our club back after years of absolute misery. I was wrong and hope now he deserves a contract extension.

Do you really want to go down the vault route though ! Please David. Have some self respect.
I think most of us can admit we didn't want him back to begin with and he has changed our minds.

There were certainly a few rocky times this season where I wavered also but he's done a good job.

Who are the old players he signed for West Ham?

Danny Ings, Craig Dawson and Ward Prowse are the ones I can see. I can recall many people wanting us to sign Ings and Ward Prowse as well.

Google says the average age of his signings was 26.1 years old.
I had a look at the list of signings from his second spell there and most of them seemed to be 24/25 so an average of 26.1 looks right given the couple of older ones in there.

Grealish cost around £23m fee and salary for the seasons. Hardly money well spent and we haven't missed him in the slightest. I like Grealish but not for them numbers. Players costing those numbers should be changing games for us regularly when on the pitch.

Dawson was initially a loan as well and ended up costing buttons.

He’s always signed younger players throughout his whole career so don’t know why he would change this now.

Not Moyes' biggest fan, but it makes sense to give him a new deal. Players will what to know what they are signing up for. And, tbf, he has earnt a new deal.

For me though there should be 2 caveats.
1) Proper succession planning- if the manager the hierarchy really want beccomes available sooner, the club should not be afraid to move and get them. Likewise, if an unbelievable candidate becomes available the club should move for them - like the opportunity the RS had when they got Klopp.

2) He should NOT be given greater say on recruitment. We do need to be buying talented young players (and giving them opportunities when possible). Nothing wrong with signing players in an older age bracket, but they need to have the same parameters applied as the likes of KDH and Grealish- undeniably excellent players, who elevate the level of the team.

Where the rest of the board need to stand up to Moyes is over signing the likes of Soucek. Moyes and poor older players as safety blankets is one of his biggest flaws. If the club stop him from doing this, we'll be fine.

Given Moyes is only using 60% of his squad how can you argue he’s making the best use of it?

Agreed he’s winning the points but perhaps if he used more of the squad during the matches he might have won more. 😃

Also thought Dyche did a great job in his first 18 months in the circumstances. I wouldn’t deny Moyes is a better manager but I remember his attitude at Sunderland when in a similar position & am far from convinced he would have kept us up when in free fall under Lampard & with the points deductions in the following year.

That’s my opinion. You are entitled to yours. 😃

listen it’s boring he’s transformed the club hugely - he’s here and will be until otherwise stated

he’s got us doing well and all fans should be happy

Moyse was always happy fighting for top 6 while playing down any chances of improving that. With limited budget it meant he was very much appreciated by the club and most supporters. Now even with more cash to spend the owners would still be happy avoiding relegation fears. For them the prem is the holy grail. If I wanted to manage everton it would be easy. Just let the senior players along with Bainesy pick the team and work it out on the pitch.

You pissed or something

It's undeniable that Moyes has done a great job 2nd time around and probably deserves an extension to his contract.

However there's just something that I can't shake , that Moyes on a long term contract doesn't sit well with me for the future development of the team.

Can't explain it.
