2025/26 David Moyes

The 'Moyes getting a new contract' stories: bit premature IMO.

If TFG really are hard ball people then they wont be deciding to do that on the strength of a manager securing 46 points so far this season. Hels dong ok but he isn't ripping it up and making a contract extension a no brainer.

The little newspaper stories are coming out now though by Moyes-friendly sources. This is what goes on trying to shape the narrative.

IMO there should be no new contract past next season unless we get Europe this season. His reward for top 10 should be he set out a top ten finish (very likely) and nothing more than that.

This isn tester for the owners. We'll see how serious they are about wanting us to be successful on the pitch in terms of how they handle those permutations above.

Id they hand Moyes a new contract and we fail to make Europe you'll know they're in this club to mind it for a few years and then sell it.
They won’t be “hard ball people.” They are professionals. They want results, but certainly won’t act like idiots.

Like you I commend Moyes for this season but I have concerns about how he would juggle multiple competitions if made it to Europe since he has a clear aversion to regularly rotating players and trusting most younger players even though there are exceptions like Armstrong
Curtis the last European competition he was in he won.

Never fear anyway brother,Get your passport ready me and you will be boozing on the continent before we know it.

Steve can come as well tell him.

They are when it matters to them. Ask a handful of sacked Roma managers.

If they hand a new contract to someone who just gets top 10 in this league then we can determine from that they're looking to sell on and their eggs are in the Roma basket.

Preposterous to had a new contract to someone who's made Everton's home games like going to the dentists.

That 'negotiation' - if it's real, which I doubt - should be about extending his contract for another season if we get into Europe.

The person reporting it was also the person who kept saying we will be adminstration and that the 777 deal would be completed.

Go back a few years and everyone on here was ripping him.

The Guardian hate Everton - apart from Hunter...who hates every other Everton manager but Moyes' - who he fluffs for.

I think we should be waiting until his contract is nearly up before we renew it to be honest, and I think the concerns about his recruitment and having more control are completely valid, they are a big concern for me also.

I think he has done a very good job this season but the caveat is the league has been very very poor, I am not sure how he does when the league gets more competitive, and the home games I have to say have been incredibly poor aside from a couple of games.

I also think that his development of young players has been incredibly poor.

That said, he has built for the most part a very dependable solid team with a good team spirit, we are in a fantastic place in the league, and his away from cannot be questioned.

I wanted Moyes back as the short term fix and he has done that job and a bit more, so I can see why a lot of people would want him here longer, I just have my worries that he is not the man for a long term job, if he got a new contract I would want him to have less control over the transfers, not more.

But I hope he proves me wrong, ultimately we all just want what's best for Everton, and I truly do believe that he himself wants what's best for Everton, and he does have high standards.

If he gets Europe, he’ll have earned it. If he misses out - with European qualification maybe falling as low as 9th - then other factors must come into play. His handling of €100m worth of young players has been concerning. Our cups were a non-starter. Home form is poor. Away form the opposite. Style of play has been pretty turgid for the most part.

Reward the man for tangible success: a trophy, European qualification, or bringing on quality youth. Right now, only one of those can be achieved this season.

If he stays on and we miss out, the ambition of these owners is clear: flip in a few years.

he deserves it. but for all you moyes cry asses contracts are just paper

if we struggle he gets binned

right now he’s got us tons better from the past 6 years so he deserves to try
and push us on

this is also a big factor for our players

they want to play for him

Or, he has met objectives so far (year one, re-establish the club in the top half of the league etc). When he doesn't, he will be shown the door

Yeah. And how were squad relations, coaching standards, etc? There’s more to a manager’s job than week to week results.

YAWN YAWN YAWN YAWN YAWN

DEAL WITH IT

We gradually fell off a cliff the last time he left, although admittedly Moshiri and Kenwright
were largely to blame

I’m a massive fan of giving him an additional two years, get us established as a top half club again, into Europe, rebuild the squad and maybe move him upstairs once some proper succession planning is done.

These next few years are crucial as SCR comes in and we can use the leverage of a new stadium at the perfect timing to establish ourselves above the type of teams we’ve fallen below in recent years. He’s the man to do it

superb post 💙
