2025/26 David Moyes

Moyes has done an excellent job, but yes, his complete mistrust of young players is a very real concern, especially when he leaves and we will have a very ageing squad
It's a total exaggeration. Apart from Pickford, who you can imagine will be playing for a good few years yet, we have the players now who will replace our old players. The team's average age will be completely normal.

And did he also break Pickford though into the Sunderland team?

What you've written above basically underlines how its not a meritocracy.

Rohl had a good game and so shouldnt have been banished immediately after.

Iroegbunam may not be as good as Gana but his performances during AFCON should have made the shirt his to lose and sure enough Gana was poor after returning.

KDH is nowhere close to being a 10 and his best performances have come as a CM this season. He was motm for every game at CM while he isnt at ACM is he?

He should be CM and then who are the 10s? Alcaraz or Dibling.
When you have a set eleven, players need to force their way into the team. Rohl has been mediocre whenever he has played since.

Tim was not even a set starter during the African Cup, so there was no way he was displacing Gana when he came back.

Our balance in recent games has been very good and KDH is a big part of that.

Was an advocate of the youth movement thing 10 months ago but if your big takeaway from this season is let's keep signing 19 year olds then idk what to tell you. Id much rather have a manager that finishes in Europe not playing them than finish 12th with a few kids in the hope of selling them for profit like Bournemouth and Brighton
Hopefully we'll be signing them from the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth soon, fully ready to go to make an instant improvement on the team.

Of course there is still signing promising players for the youth teams, I'm sure they'll be looking at that with all the new youth set up too.

Europe this year
Sign players 27-30
Europe next year
Sign players 27-30
Europe 3rd year
Sign players 27-30

Can you see a problem emerging?
No Europe 4th year then what do we have to show for it apart from an ageing squad with limited resale.

Europe this year
Sign players 18-23 & a top 25+ year old starter

We can expect ups/downs with the young lads but over time we'd be building for european finishes every season mid-long term.

Wait, what. Where is the spoiler alert. Now it won't be a surprise, why did you have to ruin the next 4 years for us. No point watching now we know what is going to happen.

But still targets we spent a huge amount on.

I wouldn't fully trust Moyes with this as for every KDH/Grealish/Soucek you have two or three flops that cost a bunch of money but amount to nothing. We also no doubt pay quite a bit for scouting (I assume, as we haven't seen them do anything lately).
Moyes transfer dealings in his first spell were miraculous. No manager has a 100% hit rate.

We have 3 years of Europe to show for it 👍

I think we should aim for a lot more than that over a far longer period.

We need to get back into being one of the big clubs at the top end again.

Permanently.

Exactly.

If West Ham had just let Moyes do his job without interference they’d have Maguire and McTominay and be nowhere near the relegation spots.

People don’t appreciate how dysfunctional WHU is due to the bizarre behaviour of David Sullivan. The only reason Moyes was there at all was because of David Gold.
No mate...now is the time all the slap arses on the forum come out from under the stairs and bore us to tears about Moyes and recruitment.

You’re insane.

We gradually fell off a cliff the last time he left, although admittedly Moshiri and Kenwright
were largely to blame

I’m a massive fan of giving him an additional two years, get us established as a top half club again, into Europe, rebuild the squad and maybe move him upstairs once some proper succession planning is done.

These next few years are crucial as SCR comes in and we can use the leverage of a new stadium at the perfect timing to establish ourselves above the type of teams we’ve fallen below in recent years. He’s the man to do it
