2025/26 David Moyes

It’s 2026 and you can make 5 subs. Arsenal had made all 5 by minute 74, at that time we’d made one and of course it was the same one he makes first every game. Striker for striker, maybe George, Dibling, Aznou, Armstrong, wouldt have mage huge differences, but we will never know and it’s not just about maybe trust or if the player isn’t the same level to player on the pitch. It’s about fresh legs. Rhol and Armstrong on 86 and George on 94 was ridiculous. Especially when players were flagging from 65 minutes, like Tim and McNeil.

When the Afcon was on and we had injuries and basically no bench, the argument was what do you want him to do,
That argument doesn’t wash anymore. I haven’t seen the stats, but heard something along the lines of we’re near the bottom of the league for making subs and for subs contributing in games. A penny for George’s thoughts, I doubt he will be rushing to sign for Moyes in the summer
Fresh legs can help certainly but there's a huge drop off in quality from the starting eleven. I also want to see more of the young lads to be clear.

Moyes will play them if they're good enough to force his hand. He's slow to introduce them and trust them but he does play young players once they have his trust.

Baines, Fellaini, Osman, Hibbert were all young players he trusted in his first spell with time. One of his last signings for us was John Stones.

This myth that he won't play a young player is mostly exaggeration and frustration from this season.

Armstrong has been playing almost every game since he came back.

Every single Everton manager since Moyes first spell has had various levels of criticism regarding the use of youngsters. Remember the Simms brigade?

It's a tired criticism when we've not produced a Prem quality youngster since Barkley. Other young players have come and gone during that spell, but how many have gone on to bigger and better things? Lookman? Onana? any others?

Anthony Gordon.

That’s utter nonsense. McNeil is a bang average player the club were happy to sell 6 weeks ago, he’s had 2 decent games all season. It’s not a massive drop off to George or Dibling. Tim is in over Rhol or Armstrong, because he’s stronger and has more prem experience, he’s not a better footballer. He trusted Rhol and Armstrong in midfield away to the form team in Europe , Villa . He trusted Patterson at Right back for 3 of 4 games and he did well, is probably going to the World Cup. Play him right back for the last 20 and move garner back into midfield.

He trusted Dibling away at Forest in a decent performance. He’s had to use these players at times this season, but now can’t bring them on for 20 mins when 3 or 4 players are flagging.

Stones never made an appearance for us
Hibbert was already in and around the team when Moyes turned up. Osman didn’t become a regular till he was 23 and Moyes and been at Everton 2 seasons
Baines was also 23 and had played 2 full seasons in the prem for Wigan, but only played half the games in his first season because Moyes was playing a CB ahead of him at left back, sounds familiar. And Fellaini has already played for Belgium when we bought him.
Try harder

Absolutely destroyed the careers of those players, didn't it? I genuinely don't see the criticism here, you obviously don't have the proof of what would have happened if Osman, Stones and Baines had been thrown in instantly.
