2025/26 David Moyes

Ok. Let's stop mentioning Moyes'away record then as that similarly historic/irrelevant. It he starts with a clean slate from last season he should be given a 5 year deal immediately.
I agree it's pointless mentioning his away record from those days as he's actually shown this season he knows how do get results away. 5 year deal? Are you kidding? He's in his 60's and isn't here for the long haul. If you think the Friedkins have him down as a long-term appointment you're in for a rude awakening. The probability is he'll see out next season and we'll go in a different direction afterwards unless something totally unexpected happens next season like we either qualify for a major European competition or win a trophy or get involved in a relegation battle. I don't see either of those eventualities happening

That’s the spirit.

Moyes is Moyes you can predict him fairly accurately. Even if we strengthen he'll still be too cautious when the time calls to be more assertive. Coupled with the fact the likes of Newcastle and Spurs (subject to staying up) will strengthen and most likely have better managers and you'll find the competition will be more stronger next season (granted this is speculative thinking) I think we've missed a huge chance this season personally to qualify for the Europa League (granted we still might) as if Brentford get into it ahead of us with a rookie manager its a missed opportunity for us

You're basing that on historic performances which are irrelevant. Only manager to finish top-4 and get us to a cup final for nearly 30 years.

Playing devils advocate, I would say that there is a valid mindset that if you are beating the better teams away then you are still beating all other other teams, the obvious upshot is that you are higher up the league.

I think in his first spell, he does this and we finish higher than the best of the rest on a couple of occasions. I think this season, we cannot expect to be winning at these grounds, given the base level. Hopefully, we can get a manager, in when Moyes has done the job he came in for, that will start knocking on that door a bit more than he has, in all his time here.

It is similar to the home/away form. It is psychological. If we swap the away and home form a lot more people would be on the Moyes side of the fence. If we had won at Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal but lost at Brighton, Villa, Bournemouth, again, there might be more of a positive vibe about his managerial spell.

At the end of the day, we are doing just fine this season. If you look at the season as a whole and not pick out individual moments of negativity (or positivity) to fixate on.
It does seem to be Winning away is not as big an achievement as winning at home, although they both give you the same points total.
If it was vice versa, than the issue would be that we aren't playing to win away from home.

Home form will gradually come, we're in a New Stadium this season, all clubs that have made that change have hit the same hurdle as us.

I'm basing it on his managerial style Kev. He's the archetypal solid meat and potatoes manager who is very good at the tactical discipline side but struggles when it comes to playing on the front foot and being bold and aggressive when needs be (not to mention his substitutions are never proactive) He's a good manager I've always said that but he's not a manager who has that extra gear because of his self limitations. Sport in general has a lot to do with mentality after all and normally it's the bold and proactive that come out on top not the cautious and reactive. Also factor in his age and we need a plan for the future which doesn't involve Moyes anyway

Come on, mate. You can't discount his entire managerial career. Moyes has obviously been our best manager since Joe Royle, there is absolutely no question about it. But he has his ways that frustrate you, and you do wonder if he'd just taken a bit more of a risk here and there, maybe he'd have won more than one trophy in his career.

Moyes is better than Royle

you can see the irony/hypocrisy in dismissing someone’s opinion as irrelevant because it’s based on old data (historic performances), but then referencing old data (historic achievements) as a counter, right?

We have a full recruitment structure in place so there’s no reason why we should be letting the manager dictate our transfer policy, because if we do that then why are we even paying a recruitment team’s salaries? If Moyes doesn’t like the fact that he isn’t in charge of recruitment because it isn’t 2006 anymore then he knows where the door is.
Doesn't mean he has to play the players brought in by others either so the argument will still show as he signed off on all transfers in the end although we will never know

He shouldn’t be signing off on anyone. I know this seems like a radical way of thinking because our club is stuck 20 years behind everyone else, but a manager these days is a head coach and that’s why we’ve brought in an entire recruitment team. The idea is to ensure you don’t end up with a Frankenstein monster of a team made up of players that were bought for a previous manager, which is what we’ve been doing for the past 10 years and has nearly seen us relegated and going out of business.

If we approach this transfer window with the policy that we’re buying players for Moyes’ whims then it says to me that the owners don’t have a clue what they’re doing or what the roles and responsibilities of the recruitment team they’ve employed are. Look around at how everyone else in the league operates. The players are scouted using thorough data analysis, signed and essentially given to the manager and he’s told to get on with it. That’s how modern football works, if Moyes doesn’t like it then as I said, he’s done his hard yards and can happily retire a very wealthy man.

I do agree to an extent but in order for it to work you either need your recruitment team to be absolutely fantastic or for your manager to be signing off on players at least to some extent. Aznou, Dibling, Rohl and George only having played 9 games worth of minutes between the lot of them isn't a sustainable model. We can't afford to be spending decent money on players who the manager doesn't intend to play, so we either need to give him a big say in who we're bringing in or we need to get a lot better at finding players who fit the profile of what he's looking for.

There is a further alternative 😊
