2025/26 David Moyes

To me some fans I think are missing the excitement of not having a relegation fight - e.g. looking at other teams results to see if we can scramble to safety etc - my point is that's a big relief - but DM IMO missed a trick with his pre season signings - Barry & Dibling in particular as add on's still have to be paid & those two will cost us even more in the future with add on's to their huge fee for what they are ATM -

DM with a few more of his shrewd signings may have easily got us into Europe UEFA or conference etc , but our home form has been so poor & drab poor to watch & poor results is why we are where we are with hard games ahead in the next three games - teams can win 2 on the bounce & fly or drop down the league atm -

Its been a season of consolidation our team favouring two banks of four have looked & prospered better away from home - with DMs tactics - we lack a goal scoring CF - we lack a couple of offensive full backs - who can also defend - DM knew this way back in June last year -

On appraisal of DMs season safe sound & unattractive football plus a lack of goals - maybe a good building block for the future,

Whether our new owners are happy with this ? who knows - It will be them who decides if DM stays on not posters on the GOT -

I watched the Arsenal game - champions elect & in all honesty they were more boring than EFC - in fact we were the better team in the first half & should have been 2-0 up - they had luck at the end & the scoreline was mis-leading -

The league outside the top 3 & the bottom 3 is so tight of teams who may end up in European places or near the relegation zone - every team seems to beat each other in the also rans -

A average good home results at home & we would have made a European spot easily sad , but true - nothing to do with the new stadium we just cannot attack teams at home without compromising our defence -

Plus we only seem to play one half of good football ? & fade away - plus the under usage of new signings a left back who looked fast v Sunderland - the team lacks pace?

The DM obstinate team selections to fit square pegs in round holes has been baffling ..

Much better being safe though .....

That's kind of what I mean by disagreeing with your original statement though, we can't really say it only applies because Moyes has done such an amazing job because in reality it's just the way the league is this season - even if we were currently 14th we'd still be thinking we had a shot at Europe because the gap is only 6 points to 7th, but being 14th would mean we'd actually gone backwards from the last 2 seasons in terms of league position so couldn't really be argued to be progression. Generally speaking if you're in that midtable bracket you're not a million miles away from the possibility of Europe (depending on which position would secure it obviously).

Can't disagree with that.

Although, I didn't say amazing job, I said he was doing a fine job.

Surely my eyes deceive me?

The mighty Brentford also failed to beat Wolves at home?

I assume they must be demanding they sack their manager also.
I did see a number of their fans on twitter bemoaning his lack of substitutions and saying it's a recurring theme, almost as if it's just a totally normal thing for fans to have a bit of a moan when things don't go well and not some sort of outrageous personal slight that's peculiar to Everton fans.

It was more me just poking fun at the section of our support that labelled the draw to wolves a cardinal sin that no manager should ever have the indignity to subject the fans to.

Then again, the same posters have lost their heads that we didn't beat the league leaders away.

I think the biggest/ only disappointment with Moyes is realising how little he's changed.

He was always a safe bet ( unless you're Sunderland ), struggles to break teams down tactically and with subs.

I get all that and think the only area he's really discredited himself was the summer business.

- KDH, great.
- Dibling, Adam, and Rohl scarcely getting a look in when Europe on offer.. VERY BAD
- Jack, HM, failed gamble, a tad unlucky.

Someone posted we're 1.69 points in the league with Jack, 1.2 odd without. So you can say to lose him to injury was unlucky. I think it's too close to putting all your eggs in one basket when full backs might've made the same impact, and better prepared us for the future.

But, in Moyes favour... 12m a season for another 8-9 points ( if Jack had played since Jan which he won't ), might have nicked Europe.

It's still possible. I hope for EFC we do it. And Moyes will earn all the praise that comes his way.

Its not a moan its facts - no decent overlapping fullbacks & a poor CF - ,Barry never looks like scoring a headed goal - fitting square pegs in round holes all over the park is also poor by DM & frustrating two CBS at full backs - you do not see that in non league football FGS -

Plus the age of the team ?

We play one good half in 90 minutes ?

Arsenal, who are top of the league and looking like walking it, play with 2 CBs at full back every week

He's had a better managerial career than Royle, for sure.
I found Royle frustrating and his style of football wasn't great. It's easy to romanticise about his tenure as he won us our last trophy and was unbeaten in Merseyside derbies but like Moyes he had a ceiling as evidenced by his lack of managing other clubs to trophies and not even getting offered jobs by top flight clubs when he left us. Also he spent decent amounts of money in his early tenure and failed to move us forward. Then you have the many cup debacles he was involved in losing to some truly lower league muck even in the days of 2 legged League Cup ties

I take it with the length of that post you must be feeling a bit better today..

Moyes is good medicine for you Joey..

Ironically, it is a missed opportunity because of the ability of Moyes as a manager.

He is one of the reasons why we have the feeling that missing out on a European would be seen as a disappointment. I was expecting us to be hovering around lower-mid table with relegation a non starter but also Europe not really on the table. I would hazard a guess that would have been the average response at the start of the season.

So, I would reiterate the point that given our base Moyes is doing a fine job, maybe even better.

I would not be surprised that, with or without Europe, Moyes gets another season, with an eye on a definitive succession plan.
Perfectly surmised
