2025/26 David Moyes

I think he has polarised the fanbase to a degree where we have three camps.

One wants him gone, regardless of what he does, where we end up in the league etc. and will give him no credit whatsoever.

The polar opposite camp sees him as the messiah, and see his getting us away from the drop and providing the stability we all crave as the be all and end all and will not consider any criticism whatsovever.

The third, less vocal camp are prepared to acknowledge he has done well, and are prepared to accept a prolonged tenure, but not based on league position alone. His flaws, as well as his strengths are well known but he simply must improve our home form. Finishing 7th or 8th would be great, but if that came with the downside on minimum points, minimum enjoyment watching us at home, the most of us (I believe) would rather we moved on?

It's more nuanced than even that:

You can want Moyes gone regardless but accept that if we get top half that'll be enough to persuade his employers he should see his final season out.

I want Moyes out all the time as a matter of principle.

I'm all for thanking him and moving him on in the summer but if he gets a place in Europe then yes, I'd say he'd have earned staying around for the final year of the contract.

I guess the thing is, I don't see him getting that European place and that's the issue. He obviously he managed it with us a couple of times before but his football is ultimately just outdated now and I don't think will last the course of a season enough to get that European spot.

Tonight will be interesting, a game where we have to go out and be front foot, but will he be able to manage it?
But, (I do agree with most of your points) how can getting a europa place be looked at as outdated football?? It can't be outdated if we finish in the best part of the league surely ?? Or is outdated the new new ??

I, like you though do wonder if he's capable getting it this time, Some of his team selections have been negligent, His weird insistance at playing players in odd positions, leaving players out completely has been infuriating too...really infuriating!!! He's certainly not helping himself in those areas.

I see it what you mean but I do think in a lot of the games we've played like this, we've got lucky - Fulham, Brighton etc and that isn't sustainable over the longer term, even if he somehow stretched it out over a season to make it into Europe.

I suppose in some ways Arsenal make outdated look like the new new but then if you've got that level of player to do it, you can probably make anything successful.

I think you would get a more realistic overall view from fans if we pinned a thread/poll at the top for a week, but one you can only vote in, not respond.

This place gets thousands of people at times that are either happy reading or don't want to get stuck in the aingst that can come back to bite them for a simple post..

If everyone visiting the forum just clicked the camp they are in, you would see the real reflection from the fanbase..

( Unless Chico used his "sleeper cells" to rig the poll.

( what a boring post !!

I don't get this obsession that people have with we 'got lucky'. It's football. You sometimes have good luck and sometimes have bad luck.
