2025/26 David Moyes

We expected to be way past Moyes at this point, I think that's really the issue.... Bit like West Ham.
My Daughters fella is a hammer, all I was hearing was Moyes out, Dinosaur manager, negative tactics. I pointed out that he had won them a trophy, Nope... Moyes out !!
He leaves, Does well.... Again he's now wanted back there. We tried countless other options, No need for me to name em all but we end up going backwards to Moyes, Yet here we are with a possibility of Europe. After the last few years of being the prem Joke, I am more than happy to let this fella try to get it. If we fall down like under Ancelotti, So be it...

If we manage to grab a place in Europe, Moyes deserves another year for me, It would be mad not to.

I'm all for thanking him and moving him on in the summer but if he gets a place in Europe then yes, I'd say he'd have earned staying around for the final year of the contract.

I guess the thing is, I don't see him getting that European place and that's the issue. He obviously he managed it with us a couple of times before but his football is ultimately just outdated now and I don't think will last the course of a season enough to get that European spot.

Tonight will be interesting, a game where we have to go out and be front foot, but will he be able to manage it?

Sounds stupid to say it but I think tonight might be the most important game of the season for Moyes' future

If he can't beat Burnley at home then I could see it being the nail in the coffin in the eyes of the owners, regardless of how good the away from is, on top of making Europe very unlikely

Yeah, I don't disagree. I know this thread makes it sound like everyone's already made their minds up either way on him but in reality I think a lot of fans haven't made their minds up fully. But I think if he doesn't win this one, he'll lose a lot of the waverers permanently.

Despite the bad managerial merry go round we’ve been on since Koeman, it seems some people like the excitement of it all and thrive on the instability.

They’ve learned nothing from the Benitez, Lampard and Dyche years, they just want a new manager who they can assess and quickly turn on when things go wrong.

Not going to lie, I’ve been on the edge a few times. But we are in with a chance of Europe for the first time in years.

Let’s just assess at the end of the season. If we bomb out at that point i accept people wanting change.

If he gets us into Europa conference then he’s achieved something. But if he does that don’t act like a dick and pretend it isn’t progress, because from the position we were in when he took over it is clearly progress.

This is pretty much it. I made my mind up on Moyes well over a decade ago. I suspect we all have one way or the other. We know what he will and will not deliver. I want a change in the summer. The club finally needs to move into the post-Bill era. And make no mistake: Moyes is the last remnants of that managed decline culture of Everton that Kenwright cultivated for self-preservation. We will remain plucky underdogs for as long as he stays on. Like you, I don't think Moyes will get us Europe because we have missed too many chances to drive on and face a challenging fixture list after tonight. We will be close, however. Nevertheless, while I think a truly ambitious and well-managed club moves him on regardless come summer, the optics of replacing him - whether agreed in advance or not - will not be conducive to the Friedkins if he does take us into Europe.

I hope he does - because the club needs to be in Europe almost as much as the UK needs to be in the EU. If he does, he will have earned a final year. Results trump performances. If he gets the results that take us into Europe, then we will need to hold our noses and recognise a competent job done well. However, if we finish out of those places, then results have not trumped performances to the extent that we shouldn't be looking elsewhere. It's a tight league and there is a danger of reacting too strongly to each individual result. A failure to win tonight and talk of Europe looks fanciful, let alone another year for the Moyesiah. Let's wait and see where we finish. In the medium term, I think keeping Moyes will be a mistake. It's a dead end where we finish 9th forever and go out of both cups by February. That's our likely fate this season - but after that this ceiling needs to be smashed with someone else, unless Son of Bill does what Keir Starmer is afraid of doing and takes us back into Europe.
