2025/26 David Moyes

How many points do you think this squad should get this season considering our best defender missed the first half of the season and some of our other best players have missed large chunks of the season too (including our most effective attacker who is now out for the rest of the season)?

£120m is nothing nowadays, it will take another £300m-£400m at least to make a squad that’s capable of doing anything serious.
And a new manager.

Gana out of position fluffing his cross.
Tim nowhere to be seen.

We has this debate before the lineup was announced, you got what you wanted with the midfield and Garner Rb..

Chew it up and own it...
Sorry mate, but if anyone is blaming that goal on Garner being at RB they were going to do it for any goal.

Our second CB was too high up the pitch! This was not a midfield problem!

To be fair I think the main issue was that we set up as if we were going to take a long throw into the box and inexplicably took a short one to a defensive midfielder instead so everybody was caught out of position.

Considering we’re coming from multiple seasons of relegation battles and nearly going out of business last season, the fans need to be patient though, there’s no getting away from that. Anyone who thinks there’s a quick route to the CL and trophies just by getting a new manager in is deluded.
When we only won 5 games at home all of last season, I really don’t think it’s an unrealistic expectation to make a marked improvement on that statistic. So far this season we’re on 4 wins, with games against City, Chelsea and our neighbours to come. No one was realistically expecting champions league qualification, but we should expect, and demand, a lot better than what we’re seeing at the moment.

There isn’t really.

Unless there is a degree of commitment to building something over many windows and to be frank that’s what we need - We are doomed to repeat this thread over and over.

We’ve done that for the last 9 years, not only does it not work, it progressively makes you worse.

It’s like the last 9 years didn’t happen.

The team, never mind the squad badly needs investment, it’s not great.

The problem was playing 2 slow centre backs in a home game against a team looking to play on the counter attack. Same happened against Newcastle, same happened against Brentford. It’s a shame the manager hasn’t realised this and keeps playing the same players with the same formation.

Where were Tim and Gana, it's their job to cover once a defender moves forward..

One fluffed a cross in a position he shouldn't have been, and as for Tim, god knows. Possibly clipping his fingernails somewhere.

A new manager would make little to no difference unless the squad is seriously improved further. It’s a mid table squad at best right now and that’s where it is.
They wouldn’t need to be massively radical to bring about some improvements, particularly at home. Play 2 attacking wingers, play your best centre back at centre back, play a right back at right back. I think we’d be pleasantly surprised at the difference that would make.

We tried to press them all night. You can have your CMs not participate and just cover but then the game looks complete different. It has nothing to do with personnel.

I saw that we forced 35 high turnovers in this game. Criminal lack of ability to turn that into chances. A management problem full stop.

I can't excuse tonight no matter what.

But with how I have come across tonight in my posting, I think alot of frustration has finally hit boiling point.

But it's better to get it all out now in one go than carry it over..

So we got caught out because one of our CBs was too high up and you think that the CM would have been better positioned?

Also no, he would not have matched Sesko for pace.

His top speed clocked isn't much different than Sesko. I won't bother looking Tarkowski's or Gana's.

And yes I think he would have been better positioned, Gana wasn't even in the picture. And yes, I also think nothing at all happens if both Garner and Branthwaite are in their proper positions.

I sincerely doubt he’ll be here in 15 months

Either he’s gone at the end of this season or the next

He’ll have done his job of consolidating our place in the league after some shaky years and his successor can build on the foundation

It’s why I struggle to get too agitated by him currently

We’re a mid table team right now and he has us in mid table

He’s parring the hole in the least interesting way possible

Unless he has a stinker next season and we’re down in the relegation battle, I can’t see them sacking him during the season

He’s protecting their investment right now
Nah just be angry all the time instead Mikey

It's clear to me thinking back that Utd could see we weren't doing much with our corners and general attacking play and they patiently waited for a chance to counter, which they are good at. Keane being the furthest back and not setting off until mbeumo was already sprinting was really poor. The speed which sesko backed him up was another thing completely lacking when we were getting counter attacking chances in the first half. Our urgency kicks in at weird times and we just don't handle the inevitable turnovers after doddering attacking play and subsequent counters.
It's a tactical issue to me, and that's on moyes sorry to say. We looked devoid of ideas and an ability to adapt like they did tonight and that's the biggest worry.
