2025/26 David Moyes

Yes, Alan Irvine has given an interview explaining how he had to constantly pester and cajole Moyes to sign Baines. Even when we signed him he had to harass Moyes to play him because Moyes preferred having Jolene Lescott at left back for his height and defensive stability.

Firmly believe if we hadn’t had an injury that required Lescott moving back to centre back Baines would hardly have gotten a sniff.

Circumstances forced his hand. Same with Coleman, did everything possible to avoid playing him at right back. Until he really had no choice.

You’d think he’d have learnt the benefit of forward thinking fullbacks but here we are and he’s still playing Mkyo and JOB. Absolute dinosaur.
Tin foil hat time.

For some reason i thought he was talking about convincing Moyes to make
him part of his coaching team.

I still don't get the whole sending him out to watch Barry though, maybe he wanted to get the move done before the new set up was in place.

You cant progress with that kind of approach, the club will always be here, the manager won't.
That would be a new low, even for Moyes - “not tall enough to be part of the coaching set up Bainsey, sorry son. What if I want you to put on some heading drills for the lads?”

That Carrick has done a great job to get them into first place.

Also at the time we beat them in November we were both on 18 points.
Ok if everybody is determined to write on hereverybody is determined to be right on here. I was replying to the original post that said this Man United team not that Man United team the word was this.

Interesting listening to a opta guy on an Everton podcast, one of stats, fast breaks, which is a break from your half that leads to a shot and we’re 20th in the table. One of my other favourite teams is top Brentford, we’ve had 11 fast breaks, Brentford have had 43.

For pressing which is winning the ball back 40 yards from the oppositions goal, we’re 4th but then having a shot after winning the ball back we’re 17th, which is mad. Suppose it’s down to one, slowing it down with the players we have. And I lot of players passing backwards, not brave enough. We average 43% possession, can’t remember where that put us in the table, but it was low.

This is one of the things I find mad with Moyes. If his philosophy is to be cautious and maybe not over commit, sit tight at times, we all now if we go one up , he’s more reluctant to drop back.
with the pressing stat we’re winning the ball back in good areas, but maybe we don’t have enough players high up the pitch to take advantage. But my main point was if you want to play like this, why doesn’t the manager by a fast front 3. Why did he go for Grealish and Dibling, makes no sense to me. If Moyes gets a new deal, he may as well sell Ndiaye and not buy grealish. And use the money to buy 3 fast forwards across the front

We also rank 20th for completing 10 passes or more

Agree 💯 was making a similar point on the Dibling thread - had he ever watched him play? Not a tricky speedster who’ll hug the touchline and beat two men in tight spaces. If that’s what he wanted and how he wanted to play, why did he sign him?

Always been the same. Great at setting up to stop other teams - doesn’t really know how to set up a team to break another down. Set pieces, get balls in the box, individual moments but that’s it really.

Even last time he was here, look at majority of wide players, some very good footballers but slow, Osman, arteta, Pienaar, McFadden, kilbane. It wasn’t untill we bought Mirallas, that we finally had a pacey winger
