2025/26 David Moyes

Toffee TV made a valid point regards Moyes and not playing players the board have bought in the summer. He's got to be careful.
I said weeks ago there will come a point where this awkward customer routine that Moyes seems to do when coming to recruitment will come to a head eventually and there will only ever be one winner and it won't be Moyes.

Last night is part of a broader pattern though by which we seem incapable of scoring conventional, well worked goals. Even when we win it is set pieces, or scruffy goals, or blammos from garner etc.

It’s why it is such a season of swings because those always even themselves out. If we were able to score consistently we would likely be comfortably in the CL spots, but we can’t and the manager generally has to take some responsibility for season long trends.
I agree, our attacking play and mentality needs to improve. But those season long trends also show us massively improved on league position from recent seasons.

Surely the manager also takes responsibility for that season long trend?

Not really a big believer in xG stuff, think a whole lot of salt is needed but those that are - I did see this the other day.

In terms of performances where I've felt we deserved to win a game, we've definitely won more than I felt our performance deserved.

Keep thinking when we actually start to play well, it'll show and we could pinch Europe

Although the away from has been really good, it was clear that we were riding our luck in many of those games and over reliant on JP to keep us in games before Moyes changed things and we got a grip.

The home form is abysmal, but the setting up of the team and tactics employed are similar for both. Players who haven’t really let anyone down or when called upon or others who haven’t really been given a chance now can’t get anywhere near the team as the afcon is over and suspensions are served.

Seeing Keane being lumped on as a Hail Mary was sobering, even if many of us have been asking for it, but that’s was more to keep him out of defence.

Gutted we never take the chances we get to kick on and move up the table.

Europe was always a bit of a pipe dream and exciting hope, especially with the league being so poor, and we should have utilised the January window to drive the dream to reality, but we did nothing except replace an injured superstar with a promising youngster - the glaring deficiencies in the squad are still there, and these are being exacerbated by the manager.

Forget Europe now, even though it’s a possibility. I don’t think the manager and some of the players can handle the pressure of expectation that goes with it.

We’re safe from relegation - let’s start playing some of the younger players we’ve signed, play players in their correct positions and start looking towards the future.

Drop Tarks, Gana and Myko - play JB and JOB together at cb, Patterson at rb, aznou at lb, drop KDH next to garner, then perm any of Armstrong, Rohl, Alcaraz or dibling in the 10 and get players near to whoever the cf is, speed up our play and get the ball into dangerous areas much quicker.
I agree but difficult atm as JOB will have suspension to serve, also I would like Beto and Barry to be dumped completely.

Theres also the idea of increasing their value too. Buying Aznou, Rohl, Alcaraz all under 24 years old on the cheap aren't going to get flipped for a profit if they don't play.

Board won't look too favourable on that.

The number suggest we shouldn’t be relying on our away form as its far out performing every measurable metric. Most of our wins have come while being second-best on chances created. It suggests we’ve actually scored about what you’d expect from our xG away, so the attack hasn’t been special, however the big factor is that we’ve conceded far fewer goals than our xGA suggests we should have.
Several wins especially at United and Villa, were classic smash-and-grab jobs built on defending, goalkeeping and a bit of luck. Enjoyable, but hard to sustain unless that defensive over performance continues.
I would be interested to know how our recently purchased statistician outfit are reporting this to TFG……. Arguably what we are seeing at home is what we ought to be seeing away, if not for a large dose of luck.

Anyway, Frank’s just been sacked, better get Moyles tied down to a long term contract before Spurs come calling eh?
I would say we should have won last night's game though and quite a few other home games that we have lost or drawn though so you can't have it both ways.

Maybe with last night, but still doesn’t explain this:

Appreciate stats aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but there must be some truth in them, or why would TFG actually go out a purchase a statistical modeling company for their football group……
Even if fans don't agree with them, or argue with their logic, the decision makers at the club certainly seem to value them.

He looks completely lost on how to resolve this horrific home form. Playing people in their best positions might be a place to start but hey, it is you who is on the mega bucks. Teams are looking forward to playing us at Dickinson for an easy 3 points. Very embarrassing and annoying now. If you cant resolve it then ask for help from someone who can. Cannot carry on like this. Home support deserves so much more than this codswallop.

Yes and a better manager will
Make an even bigger difference

Really "Better," or just "flavour of the month better?" How many of those, who've enjoyed greater net spends are currently looking up at Everton or just plain unemployed?

Reality is, we saw real measurable improvement as soon as he was appointed. Why wouldn't we give that at least another summer transfer spend, especially given the obvious gaps in the squad?

The tempo, or lack of it, is what I really struggle to get my head round. We just seem to be so passive all the time and rarely build up any head of steam. The first 10 minutes of the second half last night we were buzzing all over them, winning the ball back high up the pitch, looking like we had some real purpose about us, the crowd was getting into it etc, and I was sat there wondering why we don't do that all the time. Then suddenly we stopped again, and seemed to retreat back into our shell until the last few minutes when we went to the complete other end of the spectrum and started just launching it to a centre half rather than bringing on any of the three attacking options on the bench who we bought under this manager.

Maybe because that improvement has stalled despite significant squad investment that he allegedly has final say on.
He’s been handed one of England’s best attackers in Grealish, and it’s not really made any difference in our form from his appointment last year to what he’s achieving this season.
The squad is markedly improved on last year, having obvious gaps doesn’t really work as an argument for me when he’s committing big money to players he wont play while leaving those gaps open.
