2025/26 David Moyes

But my expectations of what we'll do this season aren't based on where we were halfway through the season 2 years ago, obviously. Where we finished in those seasons is what's relevant when deciding what I'm happy with now, because it's actually happened. This isn't a hypothetical, it's a point based on actual facts. I'm not sure what point you're making? Are you saying that we'd have given our left arm to be 10th at this point of the season 2 years ago? I assumed you were saying just generally, like at the start of this season we'd have done it, but maybe you meant at some random points in the past we'd have been happy with this? Even then it's probably worth noting that 2 years ago without the deductions we'd have been 12th at this point so again I very much wouldn't have given my left arm to be 2 places higher with the possibility of actually going lower in the next few days. Maybe you hate your left arm?

I am talking about emotions, not about the emotions of where we may finish come May, more what we are feeling now. Are we more upbeat, are we more positive about the future of the club. It is not hypothetical to see what we were doing last season in January, or any other January before that, and then remembering what the feel around the club was, as a fan base.

Yes, we can look at points tallys etc. we can look at positions in tables. But much like the argument about 4th and 5th, which was better? It is about a feeling, it is about what you are seeing with your eyes. Some say the 5th under Martinez was better than the 4th under Moyes. It might be similar this season, saying it was a more comfortable 12th/13th than previous seasons where we have been in the same position after 38 games. Will they be happy, I can only speak for myself, no I probably wouldn't, but analysing the season as a whole it would probably be seen as a better season, given the circumstances surrounding it and the less worry of relegation throughout the season.

I am personally feeling a lot better about Everton this season than I have done for a long time. Maybe, 'giving my left arm' is a hyperbolic idiom, but it is still the case that I much prefer feeling this way in January, than I have done in previous January's.

Fact we havent got a relegation thread running at the top of this page like we have for the past few years pleases me if not others.

Yes & 2 semi finals, narrowly beaten by the 2 most expensive squads in the country.

But he wore brown shoes & praised his players in public, so that’s too much for some.
In this regard he was very much the anti-Moyes. Moyes always looks to excuse himself for responsibility when he gets a disappointing result whereas Martinez pretended like it wasn't a disappointing result and that everything was "phenomenal". I'd probably like something in between, tbh. That being said, Martinez constantly talking up the club after a decade of Moyes talking it down was very refreshing. Shame it didn't work out.

Would agree that we have made progress v the last 3 years in that relegation isn’t a fear half way through the season but we haven’t made any progress v the second half of last season.

Perhaps Moyes did too well when he came back but he raised expectations by playing some decent football v Dycheball, referring to an elite stadium & spending £100m plus loaning Grealish & Rohl.

This combined with the end of the Bill/Moshiri era all felt positive.

As others have mentioned this has all been quashed in a very short time.
The football is dire, there is no clear pattern of play or direction of travel & he’s not trying anything different. This then reminds & reinforces the negative traits from first time around.

Perhaps things will improve in the remaining games but I haven’t seen anything yet to make me hopeful.

I would just like to see some decent performances & to feel like we are moving forwards towards some tactics that should see us play some decent football in the future.

Moyes tactics exposed.

I feel a lot better about the general health of the club, but much of that is obviously down to the ownership situation being resolved, the stadium move having gone well, us no longer having points deducted etc. This is the manager thread though, my point was just that I wouldn't necessarily say Moyes in particular is responsible for the fact we're looking up this season, not being in the relegation shake up is the very least I would have expected from any manager given the change in circumstances from the last few years.

Seen a lot of talk about this in the last week. On paper does actually look like the best possible use of our squad imo.

No chance Moyes ditches 4231 though.

He could do a hybrid formation though, it’s essentially what he done when he first came in last year.

In possession we would play a back 3 with O’Brien dropping in as the third CB and Myko pushing up to provide the width.

We've been missing quite a few key players recently if you didn't notice.
