2025/26 David Moyes

Why were you so happy to scrape 17th with 35 points for the past 3 years then??

I wasn't, I just understood that when you have a board desert the club, have no cash to spend, are selling players, the PL has decided you're taking the drop, then you settle for that and live to fight another day...and that day has arrived.

We do need to be careful not to just lurch back in the direction of saying everything's wonderful after another hard fought away win. It was a really good performance and result, but we know we have that in us, it doesn't really move the dial much for me. The league is really bizarre this year and the opportunity is there for us to do something, fingers crossed we start to put a few results together and make that a real possibility. We do also have to acknowledge that if Brighton win tonight we'll be back in the bottom half and have gone out of both cups with a whimper, so things are still very much in the balance.
Who is saying this though?

People are giving him credit for taking a depleted squad away to Villa and getting a win.

As for the bit about Brighton, the fact is this is a bottom half squad that received investment in the summer window in line with a bottom half finish. Twelve teams spent more than us last summer so those twelve teams are probably bigger favourites to finish in the top half than us and I don't see it as a massive failure if we don't.

I’m just saying we need to keep perspective both after good results and bad ones. It’s not a hugely controversial take I don’t think. I wasn’t really making a point about Brighton, I was just saying it was possible that once all teams had played 22 games we’d be in the bottom half, and if you’d said to me at the start of the season would I be happy at this point with 11th and going out of both cups early I’d have probably said no not really. You’re obviously welcome to disagree with that, it’s not a particularly big deal.

imagine hating on a manager that has overseen the joint top 10 away wins in the year he's managed here.
it's worth noting that for half of those, lindstrom, harrison, doucoure, young, broja, and chermiti were matchday named and often involved. (no knock against 40 year old young btw).

Whats interesting about that is ive read a few posts saying he just sets his team up not to get beat. I mean doesnt every manager lol.
But the blueprint is surely not to concede and win games. Isnt that the whole point going into a game. Dont concede and win it.
This seasons stats of conceded goals away.
Arsenal 9
Everton 10
Man City 13
Chelsea 13
Aston Villa 16
Liverpool 18.

The home form. We need more quality. Its so obvious. But these away stats are outstanding since he came back. Everyone lords over Arsenal how hard to beat they are. Look at Everton there. 1 goal difference. And look at the spending of some of them clubs.

I don't think anyone would be happy with it.

Is it about par for this squad with the amount invested in the summer? Yeah I'd say it is tbh.

Yeah we’re not disagreeing here. All I was saying is let’s not all sway one way where we’re saying Moyes is doing an incredible job and there’s no way anybody could do better so we need to tie him down long term, then lose to Leeds next week and all start saying he’s a negative dinosaur who needs to go. The margins are tight, we’re in a position where we could still have a very good season or a really disappointing one, or if we stay where we are just a totally average one, we’ll see how it pans out.

I've said it a few times but we are only 2 or 3 players away from being really a very decent team - its that nimbleness and quality we need at home which we're really missing. Away from home we know what to do more often than not and we do it well (given our relative resources, and especially given the amount of players missing recently).

Good win, classic Moyes KITAP1, he’s always been good at setting a team up to be disciplined out of possession.

Not so good at breaking down teams when they do the same to us, hence the disparity between home and away form.

Don’t know why the mainstream media are at such a loss to explain it.

So weve sucked at home for a long time under bad managers and bad owners so if we still suck under the current manager and new owners in a new stadium, thats ok? Not sure which part of "NSNO" that is:)
