2025/26 David Moyes

Well I think Most of us know we were fine last January as the bottom 3, were the worst 3 ever

We were 2 points off relegation this time last year. Are you honestly saying that you’d of guaranteed we wouldn’t be in a final day scrap?

It was the fifth highest net spend in the league.

You can’t turn around and say 100 mill is nothing and then blast a manager who had the 20th net spend in the league for having us higher.
Yes it was the fifth highest net spend because the squad had already had everything else sold out of it.

Its the 13th highest spend compared to everyone in the league and you and other's are moaning we should be finishing top ten because of it. We didn't even spend more than half of the league and this is after 5 years of hardly investing at all. How can you expect us to finish top ten because of that spend when over half the league spent more? That doesn't seem very fair does it?

Again, stop talking about Dyche. He's old news and whatever he did has no relevance on how Moyes is performing other than he set the standard for Moyes to improve on which was the 16th place in the league we were in when he left. Moyes has done that, easily.

Repeating 100 million and "net spend" figures like the kopites do while ignoring the context of the previous lack of investment except to bring it up to defend your obsession is bizarre behaviour.

In what world is Amorim not a crap manager?
He won things in Portugal...was linked with all the big teams in European football before joining united. He is a good manager, but not the one united needed. Not sure what united need a really...they seem to get it wrong time and time again.

Not sure what you were expecting our net spend to be from a starting base of 13 senior players and no sellable assets, but I can assure you that nobody else in the league was starting from that position in the summer. In fact we could’ve spent £200m net and still wouldn’t have had half the squad someone like Notts Forest have.

Actually, when you think about it, the point you’ve just made proves you and me wrong, I thought Dyche did a decent job overall, you don’t think Moyes has progressed us enough. I’m surprised how close to relegation we were this time last year (given how bad you told me the promoted teams were) but also it shows the improvement of Moyes having us 10 points and 5 places better off

You’re like a comedy show. You don’t even realise how utterly hypocritical you are.

David Moyes is the best manager we’ve had in the last 35 years. If you want to start criticising people using the term ‘hypocritical’ you need to ask why you’re doing that. Nobody (in terms of ownership/management) has done as much for this club as Moyes has since Howard Kendall part one.

He even made Kenwright look good (sort of, if you squinted)

I wouldn’t discount Carlo or Royle so easily.

It may have been the way I wrote it. I have put my original quote below

The plan is spend what we did last summer each of the next 2 with youngsters like Dibling and Aznou. Loans will be provided to pad out the squad as required. I've heard the owners will not deviate from this plan even if we were to qualify for Europe this season. Moyes can aim for it all he wants as a personal goal but we would compete in it with what we have unless it was CL which would be the only reason for the owners to deviate.

So we will spend around 100-150m the next 2 summers as per the budget. Qualifying for the Conference or Europa will not change this as they don't generate the funds to justify it. Qualifying for the CL is different though as there is guaranteed mega money just for qualifying which would be used on the squad earlier. Will never happen anyway.
Hopefully wont see the number of players leaving for free (or nearly free) that did last summer, and so the value to the squad wont take the same hit. There's been a lot made about ~£110M spent but precious little acknowledgement that Cal-Lewin and Doucoure and Holgate walked for free and Chermiti at a loss.

Really? How did it work for Man Utd, Sunderland and West Ham? Maybe it just highlights the fact that managers can only improve things to a certain point. Once your at or near optimal levels for the players you have you have to upgrade your personnel.

You can have Guardiola managing a crap team and, at the end of the day, they will still be crap with improvements at the margins.
Of course we have to upgrade our personnel. That goes without saying. Important to have somebody who can attract players too. And then get the most out of top players. That's a different skill set to what our managers since Kendall have had to deal with.
