2025/26 David Moyes

It’s not about isolated transfers or even isolated transfer windows mate - it’s really about sustained recruitment over multiple windows.

You look at Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Villa and Newcastle - really their relative successes as clubs have come after many years of sustained and good investment.

We’re still playing centre half’s at right full.

It will take a while to recover from the years of under investment in the squad.

We need to be doing what we did in the summer - though prob on a smaller scale - every years strategically to be in the conversation for Europe.

We’re step one of many.

I agree. We had a splurge under Koeman, another under Silva, then a final one under Ancelotti, but everything around it has been sell to profit, or sell to buy, for the remaining 25 years or so since the late 90s.

We need to be improving the squad depth and quality in every window. If we could get even one first team player in this January that would be a win for me. Then go again in the summer. It’s about building a reliable core of consistent players and we haven’t had that for a while outside of Pickford Tarkwoski Branthwaite maybe (even then injuries have disrupted that this season)

I think we were so excited by any investment in the summer, we forgot about the under investment and the impact it’s been having for years - it’s still really impacting in the areas we all know.

Recovery will take another couple of windows.

Not a fan of the Jan window myself, though wouldn’t turn my nose up at a couple of loans.

Yeah, I'm not totally sold on the Friedkins. Some people on here are all in on them, just like people were for Moshiri and Usmanov for the first couple of years, but I'm not sure what their goals are here. There's a lot of money to be made from the premier league and, my guess is, that that is their main motivation here, it's not like they're fans or have any prior connection to the club or the area. They spent some money in the summer, however, so who knows, maybe they do want to make us competitive again, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were quite comfortable with us being a mid-table team. In which case I wouldn't be surprised to see a contract extension for Moyes. This is all supposition on my part, however, and I guess we'll have a better idea 18 months from now what their plan is. Actions, and outcomes, are always a better measure than statements.
That didn't really help with Kenwright.

That didn't really help with Kenwright.
True enough. Although, I would say any potential problems on the horizon with the Friedkins is unlikely to mirror that of "the millenia's biggest blue" or whatever nonsense award Bill invented for himself!

I actually don't care that they're not fans, in many ways it's a positive, they can be dispassionate in their decision making (not something you could say about Kenwright). I just worry that some fans don't understand that TFG are here to make money for themselves, that their motive is a profit motive not some romantic desire for us to be the new Man City or whatever. I'm sure they'd be delighted if we became super successful as that would make them the most money but if we're not and they can still make a nice dividend or sell us for a big profit they'll be cool with that too.

Was curious so just went through our games this season comparing those we spent the majority with this back 4:

O'Brien - Tarkowski - Keane - Mykolenko

With those where we had a different back 4 (Garner at RB or LB, Patterson at RB, etc)

With that back 4: played 14, W: 4, D: 3, L: 7
Points per game: 1.07

Without that back 4: played 6, W: 4, D: 1, L: 1
Points per game: 2.16

Gosh it sure is a mystery what our biggest issue is. Good thing Moyes doesn't immediately return to that back 4 as soon as injuries allow....oh

And of course Moyes will have these stats and the players will know the results too.

Mindblown at his craziness!

It just needs to be slightly better for the plan to continue. Moyes isn't here to be successful. He's here to get as many results possible with a squad clearly in transition. There is a 3 year plan the owners are working on which at the end of it we will be competing in Europe under a new manager.

The plan is spend what we did last summer each of the next 2 with youngsters like Dibling and Aznou. Loans will be provided to pad out the squad as required. I've heard the owners will not deviate from this plan even if we were to qualify for Europe this season. Moyes can aim for it all he wants as a personal goal but we would compete in it with what we have unless it was CL which would be the only reason for the owners to deviate.

Moyes is here to stabilize the club only so at the end of the day he may as well target the cups as regardless of league position he wont be here to see these youngsters flourish.

We are working towards 2028 and anything positive that happens before then will be a bonus. Buying a bit of success now would not be sustainable in the long run. The few people I spoke to about this plan recently are very excited about it.

Where has this come from? Any clues at least?

I'm guessing from a player?

So money available on expensive loans like Grealish with the rest on Diblings / Aznous?

Will Grealish not be signed then?

Then how about KDH type or Barry type signings?

The problem with this is that Moyes isn’t developing the players bought. If anything he is destroying any confidence that they may have had.

If you were a promising youngster you would think twice before joining Everton under Moyes.

How so? These youngsters would have been told any plan before signing. Don't be surprised to see them playing for carefully selected teams on loan next season.

Surely Dibling isnt going on loan, while Aznou should be already.

Or you mean we'll sign more like this next summer then loan them out?

It seems peculiar to trust a manager not known for his ability to mould young players to do this.

If Moyes was developing a team identity & developing & integrating younger players you would be more than willing to accept hiccups along the way.

It just doesn’t feel that either are happening & it’s pack the defence with tall guys & give it to Grealish & see if he can make something happen.

Yeah i mean thats the manager isnt it.

Give the ball to Grealish and get players around him. Or give it to an isolated Dibling...

I said at the start of the seaaon that i would be fine with around e.g 13th if he was developing young players and building a new team. Or Europe must be obtained if he wasnt.

It looks pretty clear to me that the last thing hes doing is developing young players.

We definitely also need a right back pronto & with Mykolenkos extension option being triggered it seems like we'll get a new LB as well.

I hope this is true because it's exactly how the club should be run right now.

But I don't understand how Moyes fits into that. A manager who has a huge say in transfers and a) has totally different goals to the ownership (results right now) and b) is incredibly averse to developing those youngsters that the whole plan is based around. Why would they keep him on longer than this season?
