2025/26 David Moyes

Had maybe 3 subs could make yesterday patterson rohl beto, has been a problem most of the season. Real lack of depth in the squad, get people have questions on him and is frustrating because is a chance of europe for a team this season. Will be alot more questions on him next season because i expect us to have a much better squad. Is not a pass for yesterday but so much quality was missing, also still on moyes not getting better quality at fb becuase is a big position how he wants to play

Outside of Grealish and KDH, it was the worst transfer window in the club’s history.

I think some of the obituaries for the Everton careers of Dibling Barry Rohl and even Aznou are being written far too quickly.

With this squad you are guaranteed to have ups and downs and some very bad games.

With a fresh new manager you would expect the vast majority of fans to ride out a season or two without losing the heads so long as we can see work in progress and can imagine a brighter future

With Moyes it was only going to need a couple of downs to get many fans restless. Him providing an almost textbook example in the league cup accelerated all that.

I don’t think there’s much knee-jerking here, it’s simply what we signed up to when he came back.

As an example, with a new manager I’d give the benefit of the doubt for changing a defence up after a good performance. Think, oh well it might have been for X reason. With Moyes your thoughts immediately go to shoehorning his favourites in, and I can’t blame anybody for thinking that. He is not going to be given the grace of saying for example “oh maybe Patterson isn’t fit enough yet for two games in a few days”. And for me, we should accept that as part of having him back.

Barry has come on a lot in a short space of time. He made a great finish in the prior match and scored again at the weekend.

Who knows how good he’ll be this time next year?

I think he will come good. It’s 3 goals in 5 starts and 6 appearances since he first scored. Right foot, left foot, header. He’s quick, his hold up play is improving, he can win aerial duals, and makes good runs. Everything about his second goal v Forest is very good yet some people are making him out to be Sunday league.

There’s a similar issue to what Lukaku had here (at a lower level currently). When they get on the end of things for scruffy goals people don’t see this as good technique but the penalty box movement is quality in and of itself. Barry has been very close to a lot of goals in the six yard box, even when playing poorly, that means he’s still got the movement to elude PL defences and find himself alone for a tap in. Yes he’s missed a few of them embarrassingly but the top quality movement is there. Lukaku had it too, but some people only focus on their touches outside the area as the only indicator of quality.

There’s been some Everton strikers who never looked like scoring a goal and were consistently nowhere near the danger zone. I’ll take Barry plugging away in there over them because the goals will come for him as they’ve started to do so now.

That's precisely why some of us never wanted him back. So, hard to accept somebody whose flaws you cannot accept.

Shake his hand in the summer - or next week if he disrespects the cup - and move on.

It’s not about isolated transfers or even isolated transfer windows mate - it’s really about sustained recruitment over multiple windows.

You look at Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Villa and Newcastle - really their relative successes as clubs have come after many years of sustained and good investment.

We’re still playing centre half’s at right full.

It will take a while to recover from the years of under investment in the squad.

We need to be doing what we did in the summer - though prob on a smaller scale - every year strategically to be in the conversation for Europe.

We’re step one of many.
