David Bowie RIP

He was my hero ever since walking into a room aged around 10/11 and I heard a song that I still listen to numerous times over each week, the song was 5 years. Since that day he has been my one and only musician that has captivated me and kept me interested in music over the years. He shaped the music I listen to and made sure that if I did warm to other artists they had to be somebody or something that was off the scale and would constantly change their styles.
As a 17 year old I went to the Odeon in London Road to see a film called Christiane F, the film was based around Bowie playing a concert in Berlin. I knew Bowie was heavily involved in the making of the film, but what I watched was disturbing as it was based around the drug scene in Berlin - I guess a version of Trainspotting
After the film I had it in my head I wanted to see him live, and I was lucky I seen him on a few occasions.
The one concert that stood out was on the Reality tour, he had to cancel in Germany for some reason and added a very last minute concert in the Ajax Arena. The place was packed and it made me realise how big he was across Europe, I can remember him playing Station to Station and the place went berserk, it made me realise that different sings he made hit different parts of the world differently.

Sitting here gutted and will take a lot for me to play my favourite song

I may later on dig my old Sony Walkman out and my old cassettes, and just listen and think back to being young again and enjoy the man at his best

Very sad RIP. Grew up with his stuff in the 70's along with Marc Bolan.
Loved Bowie's versions of Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb & Arnold Layne when he guested at David Gilmour's Albert Hall gig on his On an Island tour.
He made those songs his own. Great artist.

Let's all enjoy the maddest video ever.

Surely The Laughing Gnome is maddest?

Sad news. Only really listened to him through collaborations with Queen and Stevie Ray Vaughan, but he's one of those artists who bleed into public minds through all media (Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes etc). Wasn't he also one of the first to suggest a system such as iTunes?

Such as? Were they positive comments?

Youtube comments are everything that is wrong with the world.

It generally breaks down to racism, sexism, idle threats and general hatred. Weird.
Saying it a hoax or that he is an alien so has travelled to another planet not died. All a bit weird really.

First artist to ever sell his future income to investors in the form of a bond. In 1997 he raised £35 million on Wall Street with his "Bowie or Pullman Bonds" as they became known.

As changeable and transient as his work was, one thing was always consistent: an absolute joyous celebration of life. He's a total original in that sense, and it's the reason I'm less sad than I am struck with admiration for someone who lived an incredible life.
