David Bowie RIP

Gutted, I'm a massive fan.

Think Bowie's up there with The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis etc. in the sense that even if you don't like their music there's no denying their talent and influence.

A huge loss for the music world. RIP.

I don't know how exactly how to put this, but I'm going to try anyway.

As a musician, Bowie's bigger than all of them. He wrote the book on how to be the modern musician, theatrics, songwriting, originality, reinvention, all of it.

There's no way to measure this, but he's the single most popular influence and inspiration among musicians today, across all genres. He's touched literally everything you hear now. In a way that nobody else has, and nobody else will.

Not sure about that considering The Beatles basically invented pop music, but there's no denying he was huge.

Listening to Hunky Dory now and quite sad really. One of the greats and a massive influence on popular music.

For me he was one of those I really got lost in when I was young because he was so odd and original.

Massive Bowie fan, really sad news. I've only twice shed a tear over the death of a musical artist, John Lennon and 30 minutes ago on hearing this. Rest in peace David Jones.

Very sad, not many artists you can not have listened to for a while then fall in love with his music over and over again but he was one. Amazing talent.

Like many: spent the weekend listening to and appreciating his music. Personally, I had no idea we was sick (head in sand I know). But think all of it underscores how incredibly durable and relevant his music continued to be. I was practicing "moonage daydream" and "let's dance" for karaoke. Bookends of his career. And both incredible tunes. Truly amazing and significant icon/artist of the 20th century.

His birthday was also on Friday..
I remember reading an interview with him, maybe 10 years ago around his birthday, he was asked what he was doing. You'd probably expect some glamorous champagne filled mega party, but he said he was looking forward to quiet one, and his wife cooking him shepherds pie.
Then you remember his wife is Iman, one of the most beautiful women on the face of the earth.
Even in the mundane his life was extraordinary!

Mrs d'indica just sent me this fantastic photo :

Signing autographs outside his house in Brixton during the 80s.

I will always thank my dad for his endless playing of Bowie when I was a kid, I instantly fell in love and luckily I got to see some new stuff.

All I can do now is pass on to my lad just how amazing he is, was and will always be.
