Osman (On his way out, loves getting injured)
Cahill (No words needed)
Neville (No)
Heitinga (FFS)
Barkley (In exile)
Rodwell (not fit)
Fellaini (not fit)

You get my point.

added a little bit more there Brennan - don't agree with your Osman comments though. He's not a conventional central midfielder; not one of two anyway. Given the opportunity as one of three, or playing off the striker he's great though and should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Can't believe we're buying a player ahead of playing Barkley

They're different types of players are they not?

And perhaps just perhaps, Motes believes that with Gibson in the XI, the side may be more balanced to facilitate a player like Barkley.

For once I disagree with LCAB almost entirely. We were not told the money was banked in September for one thing. It's just another attempt to polish this turd.

I don't mind this if he's truly up for proving himself. But i certainly hope Barkley gets some game time, i'm sure he will towards the final 3rd of the season.

Bring in a striker!!

It wont be long til you are saying all of the above about Gibson , we dont need another player like him , he just isnt that good , fair enough he doesnt get in the manure side , he cant get in an Irish side with Andrews and Whelan for competition , he wont improve us and regardless of whether its 1 or 2m its a percentage of our money that could be put towards positions in the team that need more urgent seeing to.

I could begrudgingly accept this if it was around 500k, just because of his age and because he's an "international". 2m would be an absolute calamity.

My attempt at Moyes-logic.

1. £1m for a 24 year old international is too much of a bargain to turn down.
2. He's been at United for 6 years so he can't be that bad.
3. He's a ready-made replacement when either Rodwell or Cahill leave.
4. He can cover across the midfield, meaning that any other transfer budget can be spent on strikers and defenders.
5. He can score goals...bit of a myth, as his record reads 4 in 31 for United, 1 in 31 for Antwerp, 1 in 21 for Wolves and 1 in 17 for Ireland.
6. He's not cup-tied.

It seems like an odd signing, given that we're well stocked in midfield. He's had injury problems and reportedly fell out with Ferguson over a disciplinary issue, so he comes with baggage. I imagine that Fergie phoned Moyes and gave him first refusal. Davey didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth and decided to take him.

Was going to post this before, but didn't like the thought of having a go at our old comrade.

Strange thing to say, for sure.

As LCAB says, you can't just sign players in order.

You can't expect Moyes to turn down every potential signing until a striker comes along because we need a striker more, you buy what you can when you can. If you play the waiting game you risking getting nothing, at least we're getting SOMETHING.

Yea I know, if we are going to spend say a couple mil on someone I'd rather take a chance on someone like Nugent. Nugent is the kind of player who seems to thrive under Moyes. A talented player who for one reason or another hasn't really had the chance to show what he could do. Maybe Gibson is like that too, however a guy like Nugent plays a position we are in dire need of.

Sadly we are only a goal scorer or 2 from being pretty good. Our defense is pretty stout and would be even better if we weren't chasing so many teams when we are down by 1-2.

Tell you what we don't need:

Coleman Neville Heitinga Drenthe

I don't think anybody is saying we don't need creativity in midfield, but good luck finding a Premiership ready playmaker for £2m in the January window. Arteta cost £2m and was a diamond in the rough, you don't get them every day.

Last post on this I sound like a broken record , I agree them player you mentioned aren't the answer , but we have enough ****e hawks on the wage Bill doing nothing , giving the team nothing WHY have another one? Keep the money untill we have enough to sign a proper ball player who's enteraining hey ???

Wish people would make they're minds up about him.

To the people saying "he's sh*te", can we really afford to be picky regardless?

I don't own a cat, but if this happens I'm going to find one, and I'm going to kick it.

On the flip side of this, Moyes does excel at these signings. Picking up players who's careers are on the rocks for cheap, and turning them into good (well, average at least) players. It wouldn't surprise me if this turns out to be a good deal, but on the flip side I'm completely expecting him to be ****.
