Darron Gibson

For what its worth i think he is a decent signing 4 the price and where we r at at present. People mention heitinga and neville - but last night one was playing in defence and the other at right back so they can't be relied on to cover cm as well. Gibson is still only 26 so will improve

He's only 24. I've haven't seen enough of him to make an opinion. He's not a striker. Why aren't we using what little money we have on a striker?

Darren Gibson can't get into a United Midfield ahead of a lad who's been suffering from a severe illness that much he's had to take a break from the game, and their's Paul Scholes retires for six months without playing aged 35 and comes straight in before him, I know for a fact Darren Gibson won't improve Everton , why sign players for the sake of it, keep the money and put it towards what if any we'll have in the summer and sign a proper footballer from abroad, we lack creativity Darren Gibson has none , just a decent shot from distance and he's the boo boy of the United squad

Book marked just in case Gibson comes and is amazing.

People are going into full meltdown mode here and it's ****ing ridiculous.

Saying 'he can't get into United's midfield' does not mean he is crap full stop. Believe it or not there are players who have had a poor time at United and gone on to do much better things, and there are players (like Ruud VN) who were dropped by Ferguson way before their time was up.

I always see tons of complaints when it's Neville and Heitinga in midfield, but then many of those same people are complaining about the purchase of a player for £1m who is actually a midfielder. Is he a world beater ? Of course not. But we can't afford world beaters.

We obviously need a striker, but we also need more proper midfielders who can be back up for Rodwell or Fellaini. Gibson would do that.

LCAB says it's £2m.

The echo I think is the one saying £1m.

I'm more inclined to believe LCAB.

Anyway, I'd be hesitant with £1m, but £2m -- when some have suggested we'll only have £4m to work with -- is too much for someone who offers nothing but complete averageness.

As LCAB says, you can't just sign players in order.

You can't expect Moyes to turn down every potential signing until a striker comes along because we need a striker more, you buy what you can when you can. If you play the waiting game you risking getting nothing, at least we're getting SOMETHING.

Some have suggested we'll have £4m mate, but we don't really know.

I'll be annoyed as anybody else if we haven't signed a forward come the end of the transfer window, but right now we just have to take what we can get. There's still 19 days of the window left.

Wait and see, is what i'd say. If we end up with no more attacking options in February i'll gladly bring a pitch fork for the witch hunt.

Fair enough mate.

If we go on to sign players beyond Gibson, or even sell someone like Bily for bigger bucks and label Gibson a cheaper replacement, then I won't mind.

But as it stands, seeing us (potentially) break our 2 1/2 year long cash-signing drought for Darron Gibson is beyond disappointing.

Roysten what part of this don't you understand mucker

The thing we lack in Midfield is creativity , ball players , possession players, since the little South African and Spaniard left we can't string 2 passed together , Spain and Barca have proved playing football is
a way of winning, when we had footballers the two mentioned above and even Manny Fernandes we where not only good to watch , we were affective to , Darren Gibson is just a less athletic version of Jack Rodwell with a slightly better strike of the ball, whether he cost 30m or 2m WE DON'T NEED THAT TYPE OF PLAYER IN THIS SQUAD

If there's a striker available who could come into a Premier League side now, AND score goals AND costs only £2m you can bet every club wants him.

I'd imagine that the fact of the matter is simply this; he doesn't exist.

Yeah, I don't get the "he can't get a game over Fletcher or a retired Scholes." Neither would anyone in our current midfield save Fellaini. Paul Scholes would walk right in from the pub and drastically change this squad with a few passes.
This. Barkley can't get into our midfield so I suppose he's crap.

Tell you what we don't need:

Coleman Neville Heitinga Drenthe

I don't think anybody is saying we don't need creativity in midfield, but good luck finding a Premiership ready playmaker for £2m in the January window. Arteta cost £2m and was a diamond in the rough, you don't get them every day.

but dude, brennan has a point, we sign who we can, not who we want

I think most would agree that if this is the only move, it doesn't make a ton of sense. But if it's related to other moves to free up cash, then it makes sense. I understand patience is in short supply here (understandably so) but that doesn't mean the process can be any different.
