It is frustrating, he used to have a nice far corner finish on him that deserted him till the last fee games. He's a goid squad member for us but doesn't justify the wages i agree

I wonder what the deal for Welbeck could cost if we include agents fees, signing on fees and wages ?
I expect he was on a large salary at Arsenal and would be expecting something similar at Everton. As I understand it pay as you play is not allowed so unless we could agree a lower wage with bonus based on performances it has the potential to be a very costly deal.

It just seems to be the very opposite of what I thought our transfer activity would be... so I am sceptical of this whole story.

The general consensus is Marcel Brands knows what he is doing when he is recruiting players. If he thinks Danny Welbeck is worth a shot then that's good enough for me. Yes he has an appalling injury record, but he is a very good player and hard worker when fit.

It doesn’t make business sense to pay someone over £100k to someone who can’t stay fit.

Hence “performance-related”.

Plus, why would he agree to move somewhere if he’s told he’s going to be a back up player and that his contract is going to be mainly performance related? There’s no transfer fee involved so he’ll want big wages, not a performance related contract.

That’s for him to decide. I was commenting on whether we’d be in for him. And in practice the message would be ‘if you perform in training you will play’. The point being that he isn’t told he’ll be straight in the first team, which was more like what we seem to have sold to Digne, Richarlison, Gomes.
