It was a really good race. Alaphilippe was just too good. It was interesting to see both of the vans looking off the pace, especially with Roubaix a week away. It was also lovely to see Ullrich on the Armstrong podcast. Hopefully he's through the worst now.Alaphilippe on a different level today at the World Champs - went three times and no one could answer. Rare to see a rider so dominant in what is usually the hardest race of the season.
Pidcock had a brilliantly measured race but just missed the 4-man chase group when Ala jumped - he clearly had some legs left as he bridged up to sixth, so that split second misjudgement prob cost him the podium.
Roubaix next Sunday and rain forecast so could be an epic one.
Both should be a force next weekend - vdP's back injury has been quite serious so his form isn't at the usual level, so he's probably quite content with yesterday's ride.It was a really good race. Belgians didn't race smartly enough. Whats the point in controlling the entire race if the result is 2 belgians & 3 italians in the front bunch? Should've bluffed more. Both should be a force next weekend - vdP's back injury has been quite serious so his form isn't at the usual level, so he's probably quite content with yesterday's ride.
Don't know with Wout - pressure on him must have been enormous, with the entire country turning out to cheer him on. He always talks a good game and seems to wear it well but it had to have told. He said his legs weren't good enough but the race was just brutal and ignited early on, French team did a great job of disrupting things and making it super hard for everyone.
Believe that's season end for TP - he's not doing Roubaix. Reckon he could win that race in the future tbh - although you're right it would be well against the grain for a tiny fella to triumph there. Cross is a power sport where you normally need some size to you and he's walloped elite fields there - albeit not quite at the level of MvdP the GoaT.Belgians didn't race smartly enough. Pidcock looking sharp. Didn't look too hot in de Tour of Flanders this & last year, I wonder how he'll feel on the mean streets of Northern France. Might be too light for this kind of work...
French-speaking press is brutal; Flemish, not so much, slightly critical.Believe that's season end for TP - he's not doing Roubaix. I'm sure there's some brutal post mortems on the go in Belgium - Wout himself not quite having the legs must be a painful admission. You lead the strongest team in world cycling in the WC then that isn't really an option.
Indeed. It's a bit of a joke, but then the sport has always made women's races incredibly short for some reason.Great to see a women's edition of Paris Roubaix, but why is it only 116km?
