No..and that's not what I said. That's where a team is vital. Putting a time trial on top of that is wrong for me.
Some major contenders lost significant time yesterday.

I agree with this. I find it all a bit pointless TBH. Whilst it benefits the big teams (who already have a huge advantage) the time gaps are unlikely to be decisive, so whats the point? It's basically another rest day. If they're going to bother why not have it on a midweek day?

Rest day? Some rest covering 30km or so at over 56 km/h.

It isn't though is it. Its 30km and they have 8 in a team. It's next to nothing at the front. On par with a prologue.

In terms of intensity, a bog standard sprint stage is easier as in the bunch they'll be perhaps putting out 180 watts, which isn't much at all for a pro. Obviously this ramps up towards the end, but for most of it it's fairly easy. It will still add a bit of cumulative fatigue though.

Whilst I see where you're coming from, they'd only be putting out very high watts for a very much shorter time. Not only that, the longer they're on the bike the higher chance of an accident etc. By all accounts those sprint stages are very stressful. I maintain my view on this. Obviously, I didn't literally mean that TTTs are rest days, but in my opinion its the least demanding element of the race. I'm just not a fan, each to their own I suppose.

Aye, it's horses for courses I guess. Watching a bike race is a bit like a test match in that if you're looking for a thrill a minute you're probably going to be out of luck. I'm minded of races like Milan San Remo, which for the most part has nothing really happening, but you can see small signs here and there for the first 280km that people are not quite on it and things obviously heat up in the finale. Sprint stages in the tours are similar. Nothing much seems to happen, but you might get echelons or crashes, or maybe just some lovely scenery and a nice castle to look at. TTs in general aren't much to look at, but they add to the tapestry of the race.

Today is cow appreciation day, so here are some beauties from Italy last week.

Went to see The Who at Wembley on Saturday, got back on the train Sunday to find my bike lock in half on the floor at the station, bike nicked. Found my older lads old bike in the shed, a Diamondback Mojito. Cleaned it up and pumped tyres up and oiled it. Biked to work on it this morning. Hard work but the saddle is comfy. Roll on payday.
