The team time trial in the tour de France should be scrapped I think. It Is ultimately an individual competition but the team trial plays a major part in the overall result

Throw any cyclist in the TdeF as an individual and he achieves nothing. Not a sausage. To call it an individual sport couldnt be further from the truth.

Not what I said at all. The team does the work for the main men in the mountains and that should be sufficient . A team time trial for me is totally different.

Should we also ban team trains, because I guarantee the time gained by drafting on mountain stages are worth a lot more than the seconds gained yesterday?

No..and that's not what I said. That's where a team is vital. Putting a time trial on top of that is wrong for me.
Some major contenders lost significant time yesterday.

Riding fast in a small group is one of the disciplines of road racing, in a break or chasing
The relative few seconds gained or lost by a GC contender is nothing compared with the potential losses in the mountains.

Fuglsang would have been done already without his team (and the convoy) to help him back after his crash on stage one. Just racing isn't it.

You select different riders though. Put seven strong time trialists in and they'll be less use in the mountains (as Lotto will show). No different to cobbled stages etc.

I know that. I just dont see the point of it when teams are so important anyway in other stages. I think it's a bit of a gimmick

The whole sport is a bit of a gimmick (at least it was designed that way to sell newspapers). Grand tours have much less time trial kms than in the 80s and 90s so it doesn't bother me too much.

Love the mountain stages and the team work involved in that . Not a fan of time trials but they are there.
I'd imagine it will be thomas or bernal who win barring injury

The crashes are good viewing, as it is when some of the spectators and camera fellas get taken out too !

Today's stage is a lumpy ride. Those final few hills could see off the pure sprinters. Another win and shed load of points for Sagen. Sans doute !.

Unless you've had road rash though it's perhaps hard to appreciate how uncomfortable it is, especially when you need to ride every day and get massaged after each. The wife doused mine in some Soviet era peroxide, which was nice of her.

I’ve had some form of rash but I’m not willing to discuss it at present.
