I'm feeling pretty optimistic at the moment... I'd say a 7.

We apparently have a few quid to spend this summer, sign some full backs, keep Grealish, some pace out wide and someone like Liam Delap and I think we'll be top 7.

If we do sneak into that Conference League, I just hope we don't allow our recruitment to go down depth rather than quality - we made that mistake under Koeman.
On target for my 13th-14th place preseason estimate, so can’t complain too much. 6

7/10 based on where we have been in recent years but winning trophies is what it’s all about for me. We’re miles off that right now.

I don’t care too much about European football (CL) yes because it elevates clubs massively and makes them more attractive to the top end player, but the rest of the European places are just meh to me.

Give me a Carabou cup win over finishing 6th or 7th.

When you create expectations that are currently implausible you're just going to make yourself miserable, is that something that can be attained in time if the proper long term actions are cultuvated to put us in a position where some ambitions are viable? I believe so, but to demand that now when we had one of the lowest premier league net spends in 5 years is just absurd

We have to stabilise, I recognise that.

However, being optimistic for me is ultimately about turning progress into silverware.

That's a long road under our circumstances saddled with stadium debt.

We need a takeover that makes spending money no object.

If we were taken over by an organisation that thinks nothing of spending a billion in a couple of seasons or so, then optimism is warranted.

We signed G Barry when he was 32. Lukaku is 32. The oldest in the 4 signings + loan I suggested. We need an edge in front of goal. He's a known quantity.
He's had a long standing hamstring problem has Lukaku and his body has been through a lot considering he started playing for Anderlecht at 16. It would be just like bringing Rooney back and an expensive burden on our wage bill. Munoz is 30 in June and another who's had injury issues. These kind of signings are what got us into the muck under the Moshiri ownership reign and thankfully the Friedkins won't be bringing these types of players in

With the new turnover to wage rules you can't have sugar daddy ownerships anymore

Keepers off limits.

Comparing chain smoking heavy drinking big eating Rooney to Rom seems a bit harsh. We all hit the roof when 30 year old K Tete did the dirty on us at the last moment. Made to measure fullbacks seem to be quite scarce, anything is an upgrade on nothing. Pragmatic.

As I said Lukaku has had a long standing hamstring injury, he's not the fittest at the best of times as Man Utd fans would confirm. I'm not against buying experience but it has to be players who you'll at least be able to get on the pitch for most of the times. Buying past it players with injury problems is really poor strategic planning no matter how good they once were. Thankfully we now have owners who won't be so swayed by a players reputation like Moshiri and his Hollywood Everton strategy. Ohh and I was glad Tete didn't sign as he's bang average and has injury issues too

Is a half fit Lukaku a higher scoring option than what we have?
Is a bang average RB better than what we have?
We might need to face some compromises. Perfection is rarely deliverable.
