Yeah, there were definitely others. John Lydon to his credit said something, although it was a bit cryptic and non-specific, saying Savile was -
“into all sorts of seediness. We all know about it but we’re not allowed to talk about it. I know some rumours.”

Lydon’s been a bit revisionist about that 1978 statement since, saying it got him banned from BBC, when God Save the Queen had been banned the previous year, and in that interview he was also talking about wanting to make a film of him killing people including Mick Jagger, so wasn’t surprising the interview got pulled at the time.

But yeah, others said stuff, mainly in the context of comedy, where you can say the thing, and call it a joke, without having to commit to it, and face law suits. Seem to remember reading that Savile was pretty litigious, so even Lydon’s comment was pretty vague - “I’ve heard some rumours”. Wasn’t as if he went to the police and reported anything formally, or set out specific accusations, as think the reality is people had heard the same rumours, but can’t think many knew the detail or extent.

There were loads. The rumours were well known, but there is a difference between rumours and hard proof. People could say it, allude to it, but that is a far cry from being able to have anything done about it. That's what media and police institutional protection gets you

Yeah, exactly. That’s why all the comments, including Lydon’s were a bit vague, or done in the context of a joke.

You are an absolute rat and probably the worst poster I’ve seen in my 6 years posting on this site

Ah he's not the worst tbf, presuming your talking about Oddball. In his defence, and this is admittedly a somewhat double edged defence, he is genuinely dim and simply doesn't have the mental tools to handle nuance and meaningfully evaluate information. At least he's not wilfully being a malicious piece of human excrement like Mr. White, Dandydan or Adversus and their ilk

I didn`t necessarily want to come across as a Stephen King basher but i don`t think his writing is either adult or high quality, he`s no Charles Dickens. Kings` ideas are really good- The Stand, The Talisman etc but it`s his skill as a writer that keeps him out of the big-league.
I thought Foundation by Asimov was brilliant, read it years ago and maybe it`s time to re-read it. I don`t think i`ve ever read anything by King twice but like i said, his ideas are great.
I`ve never heard of Gibson.
Do you like Dickens?

I'm surprised you've been to one but glad to see such open mindedness.

Oh Charles Di....
