Yeah, there were definitely others. John Lydon to his credit said something, although it was a bit cryptic and non-specific, saying Savile was -
“into all sorts of seediness. We all know about it but we’re not allowed to talk about it. I know some rumours.”
Lydon’s been a bit revisionist about that 1978 statement since, saying it got him banned from BBC, when God Save the Queen had been banned the previous year, and in that interview he was also talking about wanting to make a film of him killing people including Mick Jagger, so wasn’t surprising the interview got pulled at the time.
But yeah, others said stuff, mainly in the context of comedy, where you can say the thing, and call it a joke, without having to commit to it, and face law suits. Seem to remember reading that Savile was pretty litigious, so even Lydon’s comment was pretty vague - “I’ve heard some rumours”. Wasn’t as if he went to the police and reported anything formally, or set out specific accusations, as think the reality is people had heard the same rumours, but can’t think many knew the detail or extent.
