Confirmed Signing Cuco Martina

I'll be honest, I've never heard of the bloke, but some of the comments in this thread are laughable. People are making much of the fact that "he's not even getting a game for Southampton"
Obviously the current Southampton boss doesn't rate him, but that doesn't mean he's crap.
It's all about opinions and Koeman obviously trusts him to do a job. He signed him for Southampton and he wanted to bring him to Everton last year for a reported £2.5m but Southampton wouldn't sell.
We have now got him on a free transfer.
He may well prove to be crap, but I'll wait and make my mind up about that AFTER I see him play.
Until I get that opportunity, I'll trust Koeman's opinion and knowledge of footballers (defenders particularly) over that of cry-arse keyboard warriors who demand nothing but 'statement of intent' signings.
We trusted the Stek would be a good asset too started ok now has lumbago picking the ball out of the net and glue on his studs standing on his line all the time!

We've no senior back up at left back or right back. We're using our only centre back cover at RB and the first choice won't be back for a long time. What is people's problem? One injury to Baines or one of the CBs and we are stretched to breaking point. A utility defender that Koeman knows on the cheap is a safe option to plug some gaps for us. We already have Holgate and Pennington playing and are still short of numbers.

With Coleman out I think it's essential to get some experienced back up in. Koeman has probably had a look at the market and decided if we want better than Martina then we'd have to pay more than he wants to spend on what would only ever be back up to Coleman. If he comes on a free transfer it's very low risk. He's worked with the player before and knows his strengths and limitations.

Going in to the new season with a crocked Coleman and an untested youngster with the additional fixtures with Europa League would be reckless and naive.

Perhaps Koeman sees Kenny as able to make the step up and wants someone cheap and immediately available to fill a gap. If Coleman wasn't injured then perhaps this wouldn't happen.

Has anyone actually seen him play to judge him fairly? Genuine question because I certainly haven't.

Seen him probably 3-4 times, including against us last season mate, and he's looked absolutely horrific every time.

You know what I mean by a free. Come on.

Also, he's a backup - you don't WANT him to play all the time - only when needed.
He will play 20 games by Jan '18. He shouldn't be anywhere near our first team if we aim to do well in the Europa league or the premier league. And we'll be stuck with him for 3 years.

Like it or not we are shopping in Aldi!

Man City signed Richard Wright not so long ago. Liverpool signed Kolo Toure. One player who is clearly a squad filler does not dictate our overall transfer strategy.
If he is of that calibre we have plenty to worry about then we are supposed to have a rich owner - has anything changed we still sell to buy - lets watch this space hey!
