Player Valuation: £70m
I've never understood the logic in signing someone you know isn't good enough instead of playing a youngster who might turn out to be not good enough, but could turn out to be very good.
He's a right-footed left-back isn't he?
I'm sure we've had a few internationals who drank Curacao! Our first ever Curaçao international.
You know what I mean by a free. Come on.
Also, he's a backup - you don't WANT him to play all the time - only when needed.
Spot on mate. Why sign these bags of averageness when we've got wonderkids ready and chomping at the bit? Makes absolutely no sense IMHO.
Can't be having that!!!I'll be honest, I've never heard of the bloke, but some of the comments in this thread are laughable. People are making much of the fact that "he's not even getting a game for Southampton"
Obviously the current Southampton boss doesn't rate him, but that doesn't mean he's crap.
It's all about opinions and Koeman obviously trusts him to do a job. He signed him for Southampton and he wanted to bring him to Everton last year for a reported £2.5m but Southampton wouldn't sell.
We have now got him on a free transfer.
He may well prove to be crap, but I'll wait and make my mind up about that AFTER I see him play.
Until I get that opportunity, I'll trust Koeman's opinion and knowledge of footballers (defenders particularly) over that of cry-arse keyboard warriors who demand nothing but 'statement of intent' signings.
With Coleman out I think it's essential to get some experienced back up in. Koeman has probably had a look at the market and decided if we want better than Martina then we'd have to pay more than he wants to spend on what would only ever be back up to Coleman. If he comes on a free transfer it's very low risk. He's worked with the player before and knows his strengths and limitations.Don't need to be a wonderkid to be a mile better than this lad mate.
Experienced back up is only worth it if they aren't horrendous.
May as well keep Kone, Cleverley etc if this lads deemed good enough.

Website 'football faiithful' ?????????????
Cuco Martina joined Southampton in 2015 from Dutch side FC Twente but has struggled to hold down a place in the starting XI.
The 27-year-old defender is out of contract in the summer and Saints are yet to release their retained list.
However, website FootballFaithful claim the right-back will be let go by the club, revealing he is already in talks to join Everton
The report says the Curacao international flew from Amsterdam to Liverpool this morning for negotiations with the Toffees.
That's a kick in the plums for Jonjoe Kenny if true, Kenny is more than good enough to start the season at right back.
Cheers - only seen him a few times and always on the left side so made the assumption that he was a right footer who always played on the left.barnsley played him on the left but his left foot is useless, played rb or right midfield for us.
and he may well do so, but with Seamus out we would still need cover.
I dropped an E there not a Blx like Koeman! He will be more miffed that you couldn't spell his name properly, considering your name is also Joe
