It's not necessrily an excuse, bit it ios a weakened England team. Butler, Root, Stokes, Archer and probably Woakes all make the first 11. 4 of the above 5 are reasnably defined as world class.

But more seriously he'll have to rotate strike with Willey, put the bad balls away, build up a partnership and atleast look to stay for as long as possible. Not batting out all the overs in a limited overs game is criminal.

Tbh I'm far more concerned with his bowling, if England get hammered this far out it doesn't matter a bit, most of their first choice team aren't even playing.
It's just one of the least important matches the few established players playing will ever take part in, so you can understand any lack of motivation or casual approach, it's totally meaningless.
I'd compare it to the Scotland game they lost in Edinburgh a year or so before the world cup, look how important that result was. This is even less important really.
I suspect he plays naturally until the final 5-6 overs if he gets there. Looks a good player.
I tell you what, what a player Morgan has been for England. One of the few who has got better with captaincy as well.

I have a slightl question over Woakes, but he's probably in. In all honesty you go with all 6, especially with no Plunket. So there is some mitigation. The one day team is very doinant, and resembles the great Australian teams, where even if you took 4-6 top players out, tmhe ones that came in would deliver. Quality throughout.
