Cricket

England have lost four wickets in just 22 legitimate deliveries for 18 runs. Over the last four overs there have been four wickets, three boundaries and two no-balls.

I suspect at the start of the match we'd have taken this score, but being 260-4, this is an awful collapse. There could easily have been a few more dismissals in those 22 balls as well.

Burns recent averages

Australia last summer 39

New Zealand two tests 61.34

South Africa 46

Then a long break with absolutely no cricket and it's taken time to get going even so he got 30, 42, 15 and 57.

Not even a question mark for me, nowhere near in fact.

To me that represents a batsman who is now coming good, and an opener too. It would take more than a couple of poor innings, after an extended break from all cricket, to convince me of the case for dropping him tbh, and he hasn't even had that. Quick feet, gets in line, passes the eye test and looks the part.
Yeah I saw those figures the first time you posted them. I’m not trying to change your mind, just giving my opinion. He deserves his place at the moment but I want to see more from him. I would put an awful lot of money on it that the selectors do too.

He's a medium term option. If Crawley develops I could see him moving to opener.

The average point is important, but there are limitations. You also look at how many centuries you make. Centuries win games fo teams. 8 50's and 2 centuries is not a great return.

The best openers I've seen (with the exception of Atherton) had the ability to change gears. Trescothick, Vaughan in particular brillaint, Strauss when playign well too and to a degree even Cook had another gear. I worry for Burns in this regard, and to a degree even Sibley. Thats just my initial thoughts.

Love seeing a tail ender smash a 6

That was an utterly amazing shot, fair play. This is great from broad, really needed this, why exactly is he below archer? I said before broad's batting is getting back to some sort of form
Archer on the other hand was chucked straight in at 9 when he should have gone in at 10 and earn going up the order.

I think this collapse worked in England's favour though based on the weather and the team we've picked.

If we can get 350 there’s a fair amount in this pitch for all of our bowlers.

I keep hearing he’s decent with the bat but he’s showed absolutely nothing.

I saw him smash a warm up hundred last summer but it was against some Sunday league team. He's probably got a good eye, but needs learn this isn't t20, hes got to wait for the bad balls.

Broad/Archer are prtty useful number 9/10's really. They go out swinging, sometimes it comes good. England I think will be deceptively pelased how it's gone. 350 is very good on this track. They've not used much time up which was imperative.
