Once again, that middle lower order not really cashing in when the top order lay a platform

Tbf it was pretty obviously tactical. I don't agree with it necessarily as it was trying to up it in bowler friendly conditions. Never easy and why 'Sibblers' and Stokes had to be so patient.

Make no mistake bowling first in those conditions was exactly right.

I spoke too soon ha the last wicket saved us there and made it a good total. First 450 score for 3 years which is pretty pathetic, but i said i like this top 6 before the match, bright future.

Stokes is the best cricketer in the world, that he isn't a stats chaser really helps. At no point will you see him save himself bowling 10 mph slower than his normal pace, or batting against the situation to save his average

Absolutely Walken, it's a habit most England watchers have and tbf most commentators on the game too, there always has to be someone under severe pressure, but not everyone can be performing well at the same time.

Tbf he hasn't got the runs under his belt and his keeping alone isn't worthy of a place as there is s clearly better keeper. Sometimes you've just got to trust in your judgement when you know his potential to be a game changer or to play the situation with a quick cameo. Yesterday he produced exactly what was needed. I think perseverance will pay dividends in the end.

Long dry spells, too long, are nothing new Alistair Cook was one match from being dropped s few times, Andrew Strauss similarly, sometimes you've got to recognise potential and raw talent and persevere until he gets it right. Trescothick wasn't picked for England because he'd scored runs at county level - he hadn't done anything particularly noteworthy but Fletcher saw something and promoted him anyway.

Buttler has it, we've been patient but it's there, to abandon ship now would be a real missed opportunity imo. Yesterday was a needed cameo but he will come good long term imo.

The weather forecast looks bad for today. Forecasting is pretty precarious and hard to be absolutely accurate at the best of times though so you never know.

David Lloyd recounted a tale from his playing days, 80 years before Old Trafford was redeveloped :D. In those days you could look from the dressing room in the old pavilion out in the direction of the distant hills on the horizon where the weather always came from. There were two things about those distant hills to look out for he said, when you couldn't actually see them it WAS raining and when you could see them it was just about to rain.

Manchester the rain capital of Britain.

:D :D :D
