Cricket

Well done Matt getting two with the wickets shared around between 5 bowlers (four taking two).

Jason Roy (104) with easily the standout performance of the day in the low scoring affair.

In their latest one day warm up match England (playing South Africa A) won the toss and are batting. Currently 34-1, 5.5 overs. Mahmood and Parkinson both in the team of 13.

England lost by 4 wickets, but only due to power cuts which meant that South Africa A only batted for 20 overs. Then set a target of 85 off 10 overs to test the England bowlers they won with two balls to spare. Excellent figures again for Matt Parkinson : 2-0-9-3 ; Mahmood less so 4-0-39-0

Farcical but only a practice game

Huge bonus not only Matt but especially the batting of Jonny Bairstow, Root and Denly

Moeen is ready to return to test cricket and will fight for a place on the team if picked for the tour of Sri Lanka.

According to reports he'll have talks with Chris Silverwood and Joe Root on Wednesday.

According to reports its still unclear whether he'll be ready in time to return for Sri Lanka but is still the best spinner we have and if he's ready in time will be picked.

It could mean Moeen, Bess and Leach being the spinners although it's far from settled.

Apparently both Moeen and Adil Rashid could be left out of the ODI games in South Africa as England look to broaden the squad available with four years until the defence of their world cup.

With big white ball players in Ben Stokes, Mark Wood, Jos Buttler and the injured Jofra Archer also giving it a miss, it'll be a chance for some on the fringes to push their claims with a view to being an integral part by the next world cup in four years time. Lancashire's Matt Parkinson is ideally placed to stake such a claim and looks certain to be given every chance. The exception to this is Joe Denly who will be in following his good form in the last warm up in preference to Dawid Malan who looks to have missed his chance.

Meanwhile radio commentary of the Sri Lanka tour is in doubt as Talksport look to have baulked at the sums the Sri Lankan board are demanding and the BBC presumed Talksport would take up their option of commentary and haven't budgeted for it.
