Testing target for England, New Zealand 180-7. Mahmood got a wicket with a ball going down the legside, finished with the pretty miserable figures of 1-49. Matt Parkinson figured better, 1-14 off 2 overs.

A seriously understrength England had a spectacular collapse losing five for 10 runs as the new boys failed miserably to take a golden chance

Credit where its due Vince has been a standout with the bat and him and Malan looked to have set up victory with a late collapse, 5 wickets for 10 runs, undoing all their good work, mention for Banton too.

I've no idea what Gregory is in the team for he's contributed nothing so far. Nothing with the bat and amazingly he's as high as seven and expensive here with his two overs for 19. Sam Curran was in at 6 too in a particularly weak looking batting order with an absolutely huge tail.

Mahmood proved particularly expensive once again - a habit he'll have to break, with his four overs going for 49 runs, though he did pick up the wicket of Ross Taylor (27 off 24) late on, albeit rather fortuitously with an lbw decision that was shown to be missing leg stump.

As with the world cup, when key men are missing it shows massively, in the world cup it was just Jason Roy's hamstring which nearly proved disastrous, here it's arguably the whole eleven bar Morgan and Lewis (and even he was omitted here)

This series was meant to be all about giving fringe players a rare chance to make an impression and perhaps add to the strength in reserve.

You can see it in the selection with perhaps one of only two automatic picks Chris Jordan being omitted to give the likes of Mahmood and Brown more bowling.

With a whole host of players failing to grab their opportunities it looks as though when selection for the serious stuff comes around that none of the established boys will be too concerned by what they've seen so far.

All the big names, the likes of Stokes, Buttler, Roy and Archer instantly take this lot to a new level and there's an argument to suggest Moeen and Root do too.

Matt Parkinson was perhaps an exception to the general poor performing understudies and did well for his two overs, but strangely Morgan preferred to bowl out Mahmood who was going all around the park once again.
